Woulda coulda shouda...we're stretching a bit here. What if Marciano injured himself before the fight and couldn't throw the right...sheer fantasizing. Like what if Ali's phantom punch never connected and a big right hand of Liston's did...just draw your own conclusions.
Have to go with the general consensus. Ali would decision Marciano and might stop him on cuts. Marcianos advantages are all well countered by Alis abilities, so peak Ali will win at least twice out of three against Rocky. Rocky wasnt completely relentless either, he did slow down to get his wind back, so theirs a myth about him having superhuman stamina, though it was well refined when you consider he wasnt a natural athlete. Rocky does tend to get overestimated because of his clean record, but he was lucky to keep it clean rather than being utterly dominant over quite a short period in boxing history too. Plus the mob connections lower his credibility, but still a damn great champ. The above make him a maybe ATG for me, not an undisputed one.
It would be similar to the Frazer fights is a general consensus which means it could go either way. A point never noted is if there was any bias in the judging it would go Marciano's way he was an very popular man and white, not nice to say this but back then a reality.
Frazier never fought a prime Ali and still lost two out of three. No disrespect to Marciano but if you get stretched /decked by shopworn oldtimers and I don't want to hear how they were ranked or they had a winning streak against bums then you ain't troubling prime Clay/Ali...........speed kills , hand/footspeed, mobility , range, natural talent, iron chin/will and that slicing jab and last but not least in his prime not out of the soup kitchen ............loose/loose situation for Rocky.
Marciano could also outpoint Ali. The same way Frazier outpointed Ali. I think Ali would win 2 out of 3, but no one can deny that Marciano has the style to give Ali Hell.
i just can't see it going the distance , 1.Ali jabbed in a way to open cuts , and Rocky could be cut by significantly lesser fighters. its hard to conceive that Ali wouldn't connect regularly on rocky's way in 2. Rocky's style while active and i think somewhat problematic similar to norton's and frazier's isn't enough considering how small he was, he would be giving away 5 inches in height and over a ft. in reach to the one of if not the quickest heavyweight in history , everyone has limits to what they can achieve. from a physical standpoint its hard to see Rocky able to compete for a 15 round fight.
If we're talking a prime Ali here then Marciano loses. How does Rocky reach him consistently enough to hurt him? Not only was a prime Ali big, but he was fast as hell with freakish reflexes. Ali would be on his toes all night long throwing that fast jab and never letting Rocky get set. Even if Rocky's crouching makes it difficult for Ali to hit him with his jab, Rocky still has to return fire but I don't see how he reaches Ali. His 68" reach will make it extremely difficult to get inside Ali's 80" reach. That's a big handicap to overcome. If Ali was a flatfooted fighter then I could see Marciano doing damage but Ali is definitely not a flatfooted fighter. Maybe if Ali fought Marciano the way he fought Chuvalo and Bonavena Rocky has a chance but otherwise no. Ali by decision.
a short smokin joe gave ali fits with one hand..... a two handed marciano finishes earlier, what joe started in joe/ali one.
Marciano was more skilled than Frazier, and had a right hand too, which Frazier never did. Marciano wears Ali down by middle rounds, ko's him. He also would not be easy to tie up, which was Ali's real way of defending self.
