I thought the Marciano joke was dead

That being said, on a semi related thread, a few people were actually favoring Butterbean over Louis:

So, I dunno, I take Butterbean by UD over 4 rounds, but Marciano wins a decision over 8+ with his frequency and attrition punching. Go Rudy!

Joke thread but the Rock comes straight in and isnt immune to getting hit clean. If Butterbean could do anything it was punching hard. I wouldn't be shocked to see Rocky go down

    I give up!

Would anybody unambiguously favor Rocky Marciano over Joe Grim, or do we need a thread on it?

Seriously, Marciano would hurt him badly.Could Esch drop Rocky? It's possible he could whack, but God help him when Rocky gets up!

Look at the size advantage for Butterbean!

    No way Rocko wins!

Butterbean can eat twice as much spaghetti!

Rocky better hope he gets a ko within 6 or he's gonna run out of energy hammering away at all that cattle flab. Even his legendary stamina wouldn't help.

Most of Butterbean's losses were post prime. His only loss while prime was to Mitchell Rose. Rose may have been 1-7-1 as a pro and coming off an inactive stretch but he had been a solid amateur; obviously he was far more sound technically than Marciano could ever hope to be. Modern methods and all.

No way could short, stubby Marciano match Mitchell Rose and beat the Bean.

Mitch Rose looks to be as big as Butterbean now, maybe time for a rematch? Here is a good article about Rose, apparently he saved some people after an auto accident and he had a run in with Mike Tyson in 2001. From the last picture of Rose working the mitts (bottom of the article), Butterbean might be giving up weight if he fought Rose now!

Rocky could be a slow starter and Bean liked to come out fast. This one has to be considered a toss-up. Could go either way.

One was a glutton, and the other a modern athletic phenom.

Butterbean won before the match even started.
