The idea that Canelo is better than Archie Moore is ridiculous. That alone should tell you all you need to know about certain posters.
I seem to not recall anyone calling him fat. We get it. Some of you can't stand that Louis was in shape at a SHW weight level. One day you may also accept that the sky is blue.
6-2, 213 is a super heavyweight?! Talk about moving the goalposts. Let me know when intellectual honesty enters your side of the discussion.
Rocky dispatched Don in two rounds. He carried him for the previous 5. Canleo would even lose badly to LaStarza. He would take a torrid pressing against the son of abruzzi soil
Of course Marciano would be a huge favorite to win but that does not mean it's an absurd fight size or weight wise .. it isn't; Canelo is a terrific fighters a light heavyweight champion as well .. Marciani, a terrific fighter, was a small heavyweight and defended against LaStarza, a small heavyweight, Charles, an ex-light heavyweight, Cockell, an ex light heavyweight / middle and Moore a light heavy ..
Joe Louis was having his 9th fight in a year winning the first 8 against decent competition. Ray Leonard was having his first fight in nearly 6 years coming off a trouncing in his previous fight. A genuine comeback vs an ill thought out ego project. Did someone have the nerve to bring up intellectual honesty? You wouldn’t know it if it bit you on the arse.
What do you think Tysons; and Frazier's (not that you should put much stock in it) if their best opponents were a 38 year old Louis, a 38 year old Walcott, a 42 year old Moore, and a 33 year old Charles? On the other hand what would Marciano's stats look like if he had to face Muhammad Ali, Douglas, etc? I think those stats would look a wee bit different. His best opponents, the above mentioned men, were most certainly not. lol The only think "foolish" is you, insisting Marciano had a much better defense than Frazier and Tyson on the sole basis of his compubox stats which are based off literally less than 10 of Marciano's fights where he was in his prime, but take into account Frazier and Tyson's fights, when they were past prime and shells of themselves. It's as laughable as it is pathetic.
I meant he was overweight, and he was. He weighed considerably more than his ideal weight. Now please answer the question. Do you think that version of Louis would be "good in any era"?
This means nothing. Liston was on a 14 fight win streak and hadn't lost for years when he fought Martin. Was he not a washed up fighter? How about Ali-Spinks? Ali was also on a 14 fight win streak hadn't lost in 5 years when he met Spinks. Was he not past it? "In his hey day louis would have scorned such punching and stepped harmlessly away. Louis of Old No More. But the Louis of his hey-day is no more. This Joe Louis with blunt reflexes and only mechanical motions couldn't take advantage of his many opportunities. The scowling young bull swarmed over Louis in the very first round. Where was the famed Louis jab that was to slice this boy to ribbons. Where was the ring generalship that was to put this awkward youngster in his place?" Source: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/75028177/the-gazette/ I can find numerous more contemporary articles describing Louis's decline if you'd like? Also, Louis did not want to return to the ring in the first place. His sole reason for returning was because he was in a very bad financial situation and owed the IRS hundreds of thousands of dollars. Don't you think he would've continued if he had anything left? It's absolutely NOT irrelevant. This was your post, which I was responding to. It's simply not true that any of these men (the versions that fought Marciano) would be "good in any era." All of them with the exception of Louis would not even make heavyweight today. And a 38 year old washed up Louis would get killed today
