Let's say Marciano decides he's going to fight for the title in late 1960, but he's going to have a tune up fight in early 1960 to shake off some ring rust. How do you see the fight going? Is Cleveland too quick and strong for the older ex champ, or does Marciano overcome the size difference and youth and beat Cleveland?
I think Williams takes it, I belive Williams is too much of a talent at this point for the about 39 year old Marciano, who has been retire for about 5 years. I dont see it going to round 4 imo.
Williams would tear his head off under those conditions ... put him against a 1952 version and it's a whole other ball of wax ...
Marciano's style is not made for longevity and age beats every champion in the end. This would be a night when he should have been somwhere else. Prime for prime Marciano makes the big cat into a rug.
By 1958 to 1962, both "Liston and Williams" were truly the best mothers out there..... Marciano was wise to step down in 1956......... By 1960, Marciano at age 37, would be hamburger against "Liston or Williams." Hell, I'd even give "Patterson & Johansson" the benefit of the doubt in 1960 over Marciano........ That's no ****........ Williams is so overated. What makes people think he is better than Patterson or Johansson for sure? Or Folley and Machen? How about Ringo and Quarry?
Cleve Williams was limited in skills, but he had conditioning and power....... And at 212 RIPPED pounds he was a big heavy for circa-1960...... He was a definite top-10 dude from '58 to '64.... Then he got shot by a copper with a .357 mag..... C.W. was good; not great....... As for "Ringo and Quarry," well, they were the later 60s...... Yeah, I would never count out Marciano but the likelihood isn't too good for him considering as soon as he retired he blew up weight-wise and went and indulged in all the ways he didn't during his career. He would have maybe Hattonized himself. Or Riddicked himself, if you will.
