Rocky Marciano vs Ezzard Charles I Highlights

A battle between two real men of the 50's...I agree, **** Marciano's critics...he was a force of nature..and Charles impresses me just as much...did ever a fighter possess any more heart as Charles here? Ezz was a warrior as much as anybody ever was.

Perhaps, I'll mess around and try seeing the difference. It doesn't really look too distorted or stretched to me... just widescreen.

 

So I guess you've seen these highlights in this good quality? Plenty of people "care" as you can see by the comments in this thread. If you don't you can move along. The only thing not cared for is you being a grouch. What's funny is you said you liked my Charles vs Marciano II video... yet that's much less additional or rare. I don't even understand your criticism, it makes no sense. Highlights or better with random additional footage filtered in?I don't see how you can see to care or not with me being on your ignore and all.

Yes every time a video like this surfaces, its a great thing. We get to see the legendary fighters in much better quality. How is that not a great thing? You can see their power and movement a lot more clear, and you can also see the punches connecting a lot more clear.

Round 15 shows why Rocky is the best conditioned and most determined HW EVER... at least to me.

 

Marciano vs Charles 1 was a war! I always felt if Charles boxed and moved more, instead of going to toe toe he could have won. Instead Charles opted to go toe to toe ( this was how he liked to fight ) which allowed a better conditioned and harder punching Marciano to wear him down.

Fans who think Rocky was iron chined should take note Charles had him hurt a few times, including round one. Charles was not a heavyweight puncher at all, nor was he super durable as he went down 30 times in his career.

Sometimes flaws in fighters or strategy make for great fights!

 

Until this thread, I had no idea McGrain and Pete weren't getting along. Quite frankly, that kind of drama makes my balls draw up. I don't like that. It's like when I hear some kid's mother yelling at him, it kind of feels like she's yelling at me too, even if I'm just there to return her six million dollar man season two dvd set as a friend. Anyway, please make up, guys. For my balls' sake.

I disagree. Charles did not like to fight toe to toe, especially in the 40s..he loved to stick and move, boxing and counterpunching. Even against Marciano in 54, the first 6 rounds charles could be seen boxing on his toes counterpunching. Only after Marcianos relentless attack wore charles down did he become flatfooted later on and forced to slug. But early on, he was moving and boxing.


to say charles liked to go "toe to toe" is severely lacking in judgement. Charles was a swift stick and move slick defensive boxer, who would only brawl on occassion(he had very fast hands and great infighting ability which allowed him to do so)

Sometimes severe lack of judgement and bias make for bad posters.

 

I think Charles tried boxing but Marciano gave him no choice. It was 5 rounds we don't see it on display. I also think Dunphy exaggerates the hurt aspect for dramatic effect. Marciano was off-balance in round 1, and in round 4 he felt Charles uppercut was never in as much trouble as you'd think if you just listened to Dunphy's broadcast.

Always the best comic relief BE.

 

Charles had Marciano hurt? Prove it. When was Marciano glassy eyed? When was Marciano on rubbery legs? Prove it big shot.

He wasn't? He knocked out Jimmy Bivins, Joe Baksi, Elmer Ray, Bob Satterfield, Rex Layne, Colley Wallace, Tommy Harrison, Pat Valentino, Lee Oma.

This is a helluva long list of Ring Magazine top 10 contenders whom he stopped. Some of these men had never been stopped before.

Very Very misleading. 15 of those knockdowns happened in two fights, early in his career when he kept getting up after each Kd. it's not as if many different fighters kept putting him down each fight. the majority of these knockdowns happened in 2 fights. Jack Dempsey was down 9 times in one fight, that means he was knocked down 15 times in his career! Do you hold this against him? Many of charles other kd's happened when he was far far past his prime in the late 50s suffering from early symptoms of the disease that would kill him later on.

In Charles best years 1946-1954, he was only floored by big punchers Fitzpatrick, Walcott and Marciano.

Charles also took big punches off of the following heavyweights without going down

Joe Louis- 6'2 218lb
Nino Valdes- 6'3 212lb
Coley Wallace- 6'3 200lb
Johnny Haynes- 6'4 220lb
Rex Layne- 6'1 200lb
Rocky Marciano - Only man to go 15 rounds with Marciano
Bob Satterfield- took some huge punches off Bob
Jersey Joe Walcott- Took some big bombs off him for 45 rounds


That is a long line of top punchers Charles proved his chin against. He certainly fought a lot more punchers than one of your heroes, James Jeffries did.
