Marciano KO inside 5 rounds. Could end in 1 or 2 rounds. Flynn was terrible on film. I can't see him in the top 30 today. Flynn was stopped 26 times. Obviously there were better men in 1912 for Johnson to offer a title match to. I can't see a guy like Flynn being on Rocky's resume, unless it was early in his career.
I honestly believe that what Dempsey's then wife testified in court saying "Dempsey took a dive for money for food", was likely true... It was the less of two evils to be kod by a veteran Flynn than to admit to going in the tank I believe. Be as it may, ONE year later with his new manager Dempsey became the Dempsey we know and flattened Jim Flynn in one round...Whatever we think of Dempsey as a great heavyweight, this ko by Flynn has no more to do with his standing than Joey Giardello's place in history , though being flattened by my neighbor Harold Green in Joey's 31st bout...
