Well yeah i'm convinced Marciano can stop Patterson, it's a given to be blunt. But i was jsut pondering the fact that Patterson isn't massively undersized at all here. Liston was like fighting somebody in another weight class for him. When you think of the physical attributes, Patterson is fast, a fast starter, i could definitely see him knocking Marciano down early. Marciano has too much heart and would probably get up to systematically put a hurting on Patterson before winning by stoppage. But yes Suzie, tbh i think Patterson could give a good account of himself in spots definitely. Patterson always got knocked down, but he was a great fighter when it came to guys who were around his size.

    Still Marciano though of course.

    Newflash morons,

Patterson is the naturally bigger man; taller, broader shoulders, and longer legs. He weighed over 200lbs against Willie Johnson. Maricano would go right at him but be overwhelmed by the bigger, stronger, faster, infighter. Patterson KO 2.

I think Floyd does very well against corbetts, Sharkeys, johnson's, tunneys, schmelings, walcotts, charles and possibly beats all of them..but Rocks, louis's, tysons, fraziers, dempseys are too much for him.

So being maybe 1-2 inches taller, and several pounds heavier is going to be the deciding factor?

Size is always the deciding factor in Marciano fantasy matches.

If we were talking about matching him up against Lennox Lewis, then I would agree.. But, I don't think that a man who was only 2 inches taller and who's best weight fluxuated slightly below or slightly above Marciano's is going to be " the deciding factor. "

I'll take Marciano of '53 to wear-down the '57 Patterson for the KO win in a time machine......
    :bbb

BUT! Had this fight actually came off in '57 as talked about, I'd pick the younger and more spry Patterson to decision the aging and slipping Marciano.......

A green Patterson didn't have the experience to fight a confident Rock.

Patterson was never in a truly "rough", long fiight his entire career......and a Mariciano fight would have gotten really rough....especially if Rock gets cut...thinks he is going to lose and turns up the heat.

    Rock by TKO in 12.

So just to clarify, Archie Moore is not an ATG puncher

1951/'52 Marciano stops Floyd by KO3 after a few knockdowns each round, but Patterson lasts a lot longer against 1955 Marciano before being stopped late, after a very competitive fight.

Right, who'd Moore ever KO ? :patsch

The best Patterson ever was the second Ingo fight ... he was razor sharp and highly motivated .. he was very tight defensively .. that Floyd would give Rocky troubles ... Floyd was also a hell of a hitter as well. Thaqt Floyd was much better than the Charles or Walcott Rocky fought head to head .. however stylewise he came forward and I just don't like that against Marciano ..

Patterson-Chuvalo. Not that Chuvalo was as effective as Rocky.

Personally I think MArciano wins. Having said that, can anybody see PAtterson box Marciano and win on points?

I'd take Marciano to win on chin/power here though, after coming back after been outboxed/outsped and quite possibly knocked down/hurt. Although a Patterson UD/KO win wouldn't be shocking to me, Patterson had excellent speed/power/skill that would have been no fun for Rocky.

If this was a Rocky Marciano on a comeback I certainly see the younger fresher Floyd pulling out the win

Did Rocky ever talk about fighting Patterson?
