No offense intended Jeff, but your one-sided inside of three rounds "brutal KO" was just too much to take.
I boxed as an amateur, I don't know your resume, probably better than mine. I'm 60 years old and, as I'm assuming you probably know, Archie was in much better shape against the Rock than he was against Floyd...but...that doesn't warrant an..."inside 3 rounds brutal KO" assessment IMHO. You might want to put someone else on 'ignore'.
I look forward to continued boxing discussions.

    Marciano by KO.

Patterson would have never fought again.

Rocky too strong and relentless for Floyd and Cus knew it. I was friends with Floyds brother in law and he said they thought Floyd had the style to beat Ali had it not been for a bad back but they avoided the heavyweight division had Marciano been at the top. He said Marciano was all wrong for Floyd

Certainly prime marciano beats down and overwhelms Patterson for the KO.

However a post ****ell bout against a prime Patterson may have been a different story.

Marciano would be at the end of his career and would be potentially primed to be beaten by the up and coming young quick fisted Patterson.

Id pick Rocky but would not at all be surprised if Patterson pulls this out in an example of the young generation coming of age.

Are you kidding? Cus wanted no part of Marciano! When Rocky retired in April 1956, Floyd was a top 10 lt. heavy...put it this way...the "Suzie Q" vs. Floyd's chin...next question...

Ingo's completely on the money 'Bingo' (it could be argued that Ingo's right packed more of a wallop than the Rock's) had Floyd rising and fighting back. Next question...Sonny said he hit Floyd so hard he felt it deep down into his back and Floyd was rising. Next question...another argument could be made that Lennox Lewis found himself in a "*****-street puddle" twice from punchers that didn't wallop as hard as Sonny or Ingo. Next question...No disrespect RockyJim but this Floyd gets brutally KO's by Rock escapes me. Again, I'm not saying the young Floyd doesn't lose to Rock in late '56 but this complete blowout nonsense is nothing but that.

I read Liston saying he was surprised at his KOs of Patterson. He hit him with set-up punches both times.
It's a real stretch trying to argue that Patterson didn't have a glass chin.

Again.....what you have here would be an up and coming excellent hwt in Patterson coming of age as a fighter. It would be his time against a past his prime Rocky at the very end of his career. I'd pick Rocky but youth is generally served. Patterson was a very talented quick hwt who could punch.

Greetings Bill! While I'll agree you could deck Floyd with solid shots, many of his KD's were when Floyd was off-balance due to his style and flash KD's (Quarry 2, and others). Also, Floyd was a notorious slow-starter. Outside of the questionable Ali 1 6th round KD and the questionable Bonavena 6th round KD and the early Quarry 2 4th round flash KD, when was he EVER decked after round three?
I'll admit he's my idol and I tend to over-defend him but his China-chin rep is a bit overrated IMO. There's the old boxing adage that says: "Late in a fight, your opponents punches don't have the damaging power that they had early on and I think Floyd's career is a testament to that. Chuvalo (granted, not the the poster child for numbing KO power) clocked Floyd with a Sunday right hand in the 10th round of their early 65 scrap and Floyd countered with combo bombs. I just continue to get PO'd about every big-hitting HW thruout history would just walk thru him. Nonsense!

This. Rocky marciano in this forum is totally underrated. Guys like ali said that marciano was better that frazier. Frazier said that marciano and louis were better that him.

not too many people that are posting here have any idea about the facts. Floyd got dropped even by 1st fight Pete Radamaker and Roy Harris, later on he used his experience over the green Quarry and others and survived KD's but Floyd could not fight a puncher that knew how to finish him...Frazier would have gotten to him pretty quickly and Marciano too much relentless power..

Patterson was talented and had fast hands but a puncher with finishing skills ruins him ..he had the experience of fighting Maxim and was groomed well by Cus but his resistance to a shot to the head was poor

Ingo was just a puncher, Sonny could finish you....Quarry was green
