As talented as Tillis is, he doesn't have the power to hold Rocky off.Rocky would stop Tillis in about eight rounds.
Well, you are not allowed to pick against Marciono without someone acting like a white guy just called you the n word. It is bad enough with "Prime" Tyson.
What if the Marciano who fought Cockell showed up? Are you really going to tell me that version of Marciano would stop Tillis?
Tillis had some talent and skills, but, he lacked the real mental make-up to be a solid heavyweight of the 1980s... And his excuse that he is allergic to eggs is a bit of a cop-out, too... Tillis often fought in a timid manner who failed to let his hands go when down on the cards... MR.BILL:good
I pretty much wrote Tillis off after he stunk against Marvis Frazier in a 10 rounder back in May of '85... Not even his trainer "Bundini Brown" could get Tillis to shake his ass and fight back against Frazier, Jr... UGH!! MR.BILL
I give that Rocky a good chance. Marciano had a high punch output in that fight. Had Cockell went out in 3 or 4 rounds, people would perhaps rank that win pretty high I guess?? Kinda of like Matthews I guess. But Marciano beat on Cockell for 9 rounds, and beating him around the ring pretty much non stop. Cockell didnt go down. Marciano pretty much needed to kill Cockell for a ten count.
Rocky regressed majorly in that fight. He looked awful and that version would have been in jeopardy against even a scrub like Tillis. He was wild, innacurate, fouling about every round, and offbalance and open for counters just about all the time. A guy like Tillis, with the skills he possessed, would have had a field day. "If Cockell went out in 3"? If my aunt had a set she would have been my uncle. In short, Cockell was yet another blown up light heavy that made it to the upper echelon of the division in this weak era. Not Marciano's fault, but no feather in his cap, either. And PLENTY of guys stopped Cockell before Marciano and had much less trouble doing it.
The old adage attributed to Joe Louis,"He can run but he can't hide" would be applicable here. Rocky would grind tillis down with his work on the inside. Marciano before round 10.
You're a better man than me, I wrote him and Renaldo off after they lost to Witherspoon and Evangelista on the Dokes-Coetzee undercard.:good
I never saw the undercard since HBO didn't see fit to do so, but how the hell did Snipes drop a decision to Evangelista in 1983.?.? I figured Spoon would ice Tillis... No shock there... MR.BILLthumbsup
