Tyson never studied or copied Marciano this is total B*llsh*t
He modelled himself on Dempsey ,from his hair style to entering the ring without a robe he was even called Iron Mike the nick name for Dempsey's right hand.
Some people do spew some cr*p

Yeah, long arms and quicker feet is always going to the better option.

Did Tyson ever fall over after missing a punch? If so, name the fight and round.:-(

Tyson didn't have a great balance.
I've said it before and been shot down for saying it. But it's true.

I have got less than no time for Tyson, but he was clipped by Smith after that miss and went over backwards because of that. He did NOT miss and fall on his face a la Marciano.

However he did miss and fall over against Stewart.

I know what you are saying but he lunged in and was badly off balance. I think he slipped or fell over Smith's legs, but the cause of it was bad balance and lunging in. It's clear enough on film from several replay angles.

Yeah, Marciano's balance was bad too, perhaps worse.

You question an observation, I respond, you ignore it to question another observation within that observation with tired stock criticisms, what is my incentive to continue with this?

This is like challenging me to chess, losing and than saying "this game sucks anyway."

Both were short aggressive fighters reaching for longer retreating fighters, they are going to have bad moments, I would say they had good balance all things considered since they usually recovered quick or we're in good position.

I just object that this is a unique problem for Marciano, just rewatching the Tucker fight, Tyson has some ugly moments.

No, I was commenting on the larger subject of Marciano's career, but if you like I will add that I used a jab feint and cross before I ever saw footage of Marciano.

Picking one exchange from a fighter's career to extrapolate such conclusions is just nonsense. Such is not a agame of chess... it's not even Tiddley Winks.

Are you suggesting Tyson never studied Marciano footage with Cus as a young teen, that Tyson has not gone on record multiple times stating his admiration of Marciano as a short pressure fighter and studying his fights? Is Tyson not on film watching Marciano?

And you used it out of a crouch while pressuring a taller fighter?

Tyson used it more than once, most famously the Botha fight. I used Tucker because I just watched it. If you want to say it's coincidence, fine, but still a Marciano favorite that Tyson used successfully.

Nothing at all wrong with Marciano's balance.

I watched Bradley swing and fall over himself countless times against Vargas - far worse than Rock is guilty of and i never hear anybody talking about how Bradley has terrible balance.

    1. I agree, I think the way they were built and their styles made it inevitable that they would have to sacrifice perfect balance for more offensive positions. It made them vulnerable in theory but with the offense and ****nal they were putting forward it would take an exceptional boxer to capitalize on it.

    2. True, Tyson looked ugly in long fights, just grinding out a win.

    That's a fair point too.

Anyone with a pair of eyes can see this is two fighters of similar stature using about as identical a move and technique you'll ever see. But hey, don't let your eyes get in the way of personal bias or prejudice.

And no, these are not isolated incidents, trying to portray fluke as the norm. But merely the best executed and prominent examples.
