    And vice versa, probably.

You are probably looking at 5-5 or something like that. The division went away from Rocks style towards the modern era. It would be like putting Froch against top level cruiserweights. Look how blunted Mike became after he lost a few percent of his speed and agility, and his starting point was a lot higher in that regard. That is Rock's biggest problem, the lack of speed.

Look, if you are new and not a regular using a new name, you will see that there are a few different camps regarding Rocky Marciano .. some think he walked on water and some look at him pragmatically based on physics and record .. it's very tribal. As of late a few dirt bags (Mongoose and SalSanchezFan) now claim you are prejudiced if you criticize a fighter of Italian decent. It's some scummy stuff so the laughter was my response to your post which to me is a huge leap of faith based on pure speculation as Rocky never fought any big, young , strong talented heavyweights in his career on par with the much larger fighters on the 80's ..

HG, the bigger guys of the day were beaten by the smaller better guys of the day, Marciano beat big men but once he became champion, the bigger guys kept losing to the smaller better men.

6' Walcot beat 6'4 Hein Ten Hoff 84 inch reach, 6'4 Johnny Shkor Ko1 (Marciano KO'd Shkor as well ) 6'3 Ollie Tandberg

    5'11 Moore Ko'd 6'2 Bob Baker and beat 6'3 Nino Valdes 2X, 6'4 Leonard Dugan KO 3 ,6'3 Alberto Lovell KO 1, Ko'd Bert Whitehurst 2X

5"10 Harold Johnson beat 6'1 Julio Mederos, 6'1 Clarence Henry, 6'3 Nino Valdes in 1954 and 6'2 Billy Gilliam in 1953

    5'10 Bob Satterfield Dominated Nino Valdes 6'3 in 1955, Ko'd in 3 6'3 31-1 Cleveland "Big Cat' Williams in 1954, KO 1 6'2 Bob Baker 1953

6' Ezzard Charles Ko 6'3 Coley Wallace, 6'2.5 Cesar Brion, 6'1 Rex Layne,6'1 Bernie Reynolds, 6'2 Billy Gilliam,

6' LaStarza eliminated 6"2 Dan Bucceroni, 6'1 Rex Layne 6'2.5 Cesar Brion

5'11 Don Kockel beat 6'2 Johnny Arthur, 6'1 Uber Bacillieri, 6'1 Tommy Farr

so while Marciano did fight guys about 6' feet in his defenses they were all # 1 contenders that beat the bigger men of the day (Kockel was # 2 contender)

point is the bigger men of the day were not the best of the day

The 80's had a mediocre bunch IMO, taking turns in lean fests, in fact Baker and Valdes may have done well with that group but unfortunately not with the smaller skilled and experienced men of the 50's

Marciano beats Bruno, ****ey, Coetzee, Smith. I think the rest have a good chance of beating him.

. A lot of twenty fight contenders contested (and won) alphabet belts in the 1980s. Most lost their next fight. I don't think anyone can be that certain about Marciano being out of his depth.

Point well made even if we disagree about what it means.

I must be missing something. There must be a reason why so many otherwise knowledgable boxing fans will themselves into believing that a tiny, short-armed, slow-footed, slow-handed, unbalanced, extremely-hittable light heavyweight/cruiserweight who had wars against former middle- and junior-middleweights who were older than 30 would dominate men who were bigger, stronger, quicker, faster, more athletic, and were more skilled defensively. It's like there's an elephant in the room or something...

Big Marciano fan, but he'd lose more than he wins.

All of these guys when on song were petty good, tough fighters. Gerry C. and Bruno may not have had great punch resistance, but they had vicious power and were big.
Guys like Tucker, Thomas and Spoon were good all-rounders and tough.
Dokes had those ridiculously fast hands. Weaver had a so-so chin but another heavy puncher and crafty.
Coetzee was a very good puncher himself and while maybe one of the more susceptable guys here, still a threat.

Bottom line: at their best each of these guys were a handful and all were considerably larger than Rocky. None would be 'gimme' fights.

I am not so sure to be honest.

I look at that list, and I see a lot of guys who are bigger than Marciano's opponents, but clearly not better!

If he can be consistent against great smaller technical fighters, why not against big limited fighters, with occasional drug problems?
