Or contenders, or even fringe contenders!

Rocky wouldn't consistently be able to compete with SHW fighters, I've no doubt.

He'd probably follow a career trajectory similar to Adamek.

Belt at LHW, champion at CW, carefully managed run at HW.

I cringe when I think of Rocky being made to fight Joshua.

You set that goal post I'm sorry the difference didn't mean as much you wanted it to.

Okay, and by the age of 30 both men are in the same weight range again.

Depends, I wouldn't call cruiser Norris bigger. He was about an inch shorter at least and often had no more than 5 pounds on him. Does Norris' shorter stature and comparative weight, he could reach an apex that Maricano couldn't in weight gain?

I think that's the argument being presented...

None of which of course detracts in the slightest way from his very real achievements.

For all we know Norris was following a programme to artificially build weight before he even turned pro. He obviously was as comfortable under 190 as he was over 200 otherwise he never would have dropped his weight in the first place...and he kept returning to it, his last ever fight he was lighter than his debut!

Not really and I dont see that he has any relevance in a discussion about Marciano.

I rank him right behind Lewis and ahead of Tyson.

He obviously punched harder than either of them but certainly not as hard as Rocky!

I doubt it. As mentioned he was only 20 in his first pro fight and was right around 200. He proceeded to spend most of his career at heavy and only dropped down when things got seemingly rough and never stayed there very long.

    1. No. I called him a career 200+ heavyweight and you cherry picked the brief points in their careers where their weights were the closest.

    2. Yes when Norris CHOSE to drop weight for a while when things at heavyweight got rough then later moved back up presumably because either the money wasn't there Or because managing that weight was getting increasingly harder.. in either case he wasn't taking on super heavyweights while fighting at 187.. he was getting his ass kicked by the great almighty Nate Miller. How does any of this help Marciano ? I don't know.

    3. Again cherry picking the smallest version of Norris when in fact he spent about 75% of his career at a higher weight.

    4. Fair enough but then why the hell have we spent 19 pages arguing about this then ? Marciano would be a cruiserweight by modern standards and a rather small one at that. Some of these cruisers today are 200 lbs and as tall as 6'3"-6'4". Why bother even trying to place him at heavy and why use the performances of Orlin Norris to manifest this ?

What's your basis for suggesting that Norris needed "modern 'help'" to make 200?

Norris also competed in the 201-lb class during his amateur days, years before he turned pro. I have no idea what he weighed then though.
