Buddy Baer could hit, but he was nowhere near the puncher his brother was. thats a fact, max baer was a murderous puncher.
Buddy was floored by other fighters, only joe louis could ever floor max baer when he was even close to his prime, the only other time he was floored was when he was washed up late in his career to top contender lou nova. i would say max has the more proven chin.
I would say, marciano by 3rd knockout, buddy had a punch but marciano had a granite chin and the most underated defense in boxing history. I think marciano, because of the size of baer would just bash his body, and then when his hands come down. The rock would hit him so hard with the left hook, max would feel it.
Who else floored him? I've seen Louis/Buddy I and I honestly never saw a fighter take so much abuse from Joe. It was ****ing unbelievable.
Buddy Baer would be the best puncher Marciano faced, and the biggest boxer Marciano faced. Buddy, unlike his more famous brother Max had some heart. He did not clown around or cave in when the going got rough as fast as Max did. The first Louis vs Buddy Baer fight is interesting. Buddy actually knocks Louis out of the ring. Bear lands a solid shot while Louis back was pinned on the ropes, and the force of the blow makes Louis summersault over the ropes! Somehow Louis lands on his feet outside the ring apron! It was a split second type of thing. Louis then climbs in through the ropes and pretty much wins the rest of the fight. In the re-match, Louis bombed out a stationary Buddy Bear. I think Marciano would win a tough decision or win via late round TKO by outworking and out landing Buddy Baer. Buddy really did not have out skills to use his huge height and reach advantage in this match up.
Weird how you seem to never pick marciano by Mid Round knockouts or one sided victories, you seem to think every fight he would win would be a big struggle he would have to grind out down the stretch. I dont agree with your evaluation of rocky marciano. The way a pre 1953 Rocky Marciano dismantled big punchers like joe louis and rex layne in devastating fashion was very impressive. I think Baers style plays right into marcianos hands, baer is a big target and hes there to be hit. 6'5 220lb durable fringe contender johnny skhor(incorrectly on boxrec listed as 6'2, other sources say 6'5) a rough and tough fighter from boston was absolutley demolished by marciano heres the fight report "Shkor was big and strong, and his mauling tactics were worrisome to Marciano for four rounds. Johnny stayed at close quarters and leaned on his opponent, trying to tire him out. Even so, Rocky did enough punching to win the first three rounds and the fourth was even. Marciano began to find the range in the fifth and knocked Shkor down with a left hook and a right to the eye just before the bell. Marciano came out in the sixth throwing bombs and Shkor was down for three nine-counts before the fight was stopped. The attendance was 6072 and the gross gate was $12,081."- AP report I dont see baer being competitive vs marciano
Well, Marciano won his title bouts in slightly past nine rounds on average, and had his hnds full with slightly past their prime versions of Charels, and Wlacott which were not as durable as Buddy Baer was. LaStara lasted the distance once, and 11 rounds another time vs Rocky. Rocky had to come from behind on points to score TKO's over Walcott and LaStarza. The same can be said to Charles, at least early in their fight. Cockell, who was not as good as Bear lasted 9 rounds too. So did Archie Moore. Charles, who did not have a top chin like Baer lasted 15, and 8 by pretty much standing toe to toe with Marciano. Walcott who also was not as durable as B Baer lasted 13 but he used his legs. IMO Wlacott quit in 1 in the re-match. So you see, picking Marciano via late round TKO makes a lot of sense. More often than not, vs the best out there Rocky scored late round stoppages. Want more information? Consider this. Buddy Bear was only stopped twice in 60 fights, and one was vs Joe Louis at his best in Buddy's last fight. I suppose I could say Rocky in 9 over Buddy Bear. Sorry. That's how I see it.
Its simply amazing the logic you use to attempt to tear down rocky marciano, and then flip role reversals and defend dempsey to the death on things you would normally critisize marciano for. Unbelievable, I just have no response.
