If you can't decipher the difference in skill or talent between Vitali and Carnera or Buddy, you are better to find a more appropriate game. Perhaps Go Fish.
Carnera had skill, he just didn't take a punch too well and he lacked a ferocious attack. Skill and size were the things he did have, and he had heart enough to take his beatings. Carnera would have made a great amateur boxer, nicking points over 3 fast rounds. Point scoring skill.
If you cannot see the overwhelming skill difference between the straight up amateur European style of Wlad and the all time skills of Louis.......well you need to buy a "how to box" textbook. No comparison.
If you don't know Manny Steward and what sort of style he taught, wag your cane and protect your lawn some more.
IF Fury beats Klitscho will you still think the ****yses was wrong? I'm not even going to watch the fight, not even a replay of it... Why? because it's an absolute insult to the great sport boxing once was, and could still be again as soon as all this s hi t gets put away with. Fury shouldn't even be in the ring for a world title fight, and I KNOW he has improved some, but he is still sub par... if he manages a win, well boxing truly is hurting. As for Joe Louis, read these views for what they are. Simply put a subtle cagey sniper like Joe Louis "Can & 'most likely' Would" beat a stationary 'basic' upright Giant! does that mean the GIANT can't beat Louis or anyone for that matter? NO, of course it doesn't, the GIANT, especially reasonably good ones could win, certainly they could, and should (S-HW GIANTS). However the Very Best, fairly big great HW's, especially like Joe louis could well, skill & punch wise, just as easily 'timber' the Giant. That's it! not a ridiculous view at all, and more importantly as one person has already said... it's Really TWO Completely Different weight classes really, HW's one group, S-HW's for the other group, so hardly even or equal playing fields. man IF Fury gets a win, I'd favour Joe Louis over either of them in back to back fights!!!
Your statement that Vitally would KO both of them, is not necessarily correct, and possibly irrelevant even if it is.
What were your thoughts after Spinks beat Ali? Or Douglas beat Tyson? Or Rahman beat Lewis? What were the thoughts of contemporaries who watched Willard beat Johnson or Braddock beat Baer? And the list of guys I could make who "shouldn't even be in the ring for a world title fight" but were would take days to compose.
Foreman was 6'3 or close to it Gerry C was about 6'5 + Ali was closer to 6'2 than anything, i met him Frazier was 5'10-5'11 but stocky and wide Scary looking dude
I love Joe, a beautiful fighter to watch, but he doesn't beat a prime Ali. If Billy Conn boxed circles around him until he got stupid, and a Tony Galento droppd him, imagine what a prime Ali who was taller, bigger, and faster then Conn would of done. And not that a Kiechko is a great fighter (he's not, neither one) but sometimes size can be overwhelming. And both Kleichkoes are hugh guys. Tough go for Joe, even a prime Joe.
The style you speak of seldom reflects the top Eastern Europeans in the pro's and this goes for all weight classes. GGG, Kovalev, Lomo, Usyk and Klitschko have very American looking boxing form.
Again, I would urge people to avoid this sort of comparison, unless there is a strong element of similarity between the fighters being compared. Billy Conn might have given Louis problems because he was smaller and faster than him. Tony Galento might have dropped Louis, because he was shorter than him, and fighting out of a crouch in close. Styles make fights, and comparisons with Louiss opponents, should only be made where they are appropriate.
Vitali would have beaten Louis up. As great as Louis' hands were, his feet were just as bad. He rarely had to concede space or follow a target in his own era but when he did he didn't look all that stellar. If there's anything Vitali can do, it's fight tall. He's also skilled, can take a shot, and throws a ton of punches. Bad match-up for Louis.
Is this actually true though? We know that Louis displayed excellent footwork in a small number of fights, but that he chose not to utilise it for the majority of his fights. If as you suggest, the only way that he could win would be to utilise footwork, wouldnt he simply do so? Is he even going to need to when it comes to the crunch? He fought guys more mobile than Vitally with his seek and destroy style, and he always seemed to get them where he wanted them by various subtle means.
