That's the clincher for me. There ain't many other fighters I can think of who recovered as well as Dempsey did. He claimed to get badly buzzed by Brennan in that second fight but he is fighting back in a matter of seconds. Foreman was lucky that the bell went at the end of that forth whereas I'd say Dempsey was unlucky to get jousted through the ropes.
I think history is a little harsh on Firpo, technically. I mean some people make it out like the guy couldn't direct a punch! He is immortalised as the guy who throws that not-particularly-accurate over-excited flurry at Dempsey on the ropes just as Dempsey is predominantly known by casual fans as the caveman who lamps Willard to his knees over and over. Of course on the latter point we know Dempsey had a bit more going for him.
Always impressed with Frazier but the version that fought Foreman was not prime or peak and when did he land and test Big George's chops....Frazier had to take before he could give vs George and he really never got the chance to do the later
