Roy Jones fought trash opposition

I like that the two threads in this section at the top right now are one calling Henry Maske a good fighter who fought solid opposition and the other calling Roy Jones a fraud who fought trash. Everything really is relative.

 

Which champ couldhe beat today? The guy he beat was nowhere near AJ or Fury`s level and there`s no way Roy would have stood a chance against either of those two, nor would he have moved up to challenge them, he picked Ruiz because he was inept.

 

Aj and Fury's levels are TBD. Y'all need to slow down and let these HW's actually accomplish more before lofting them to the top of everything.

 

No im not. I never claimed they would destroy McCallum hearns winky or norris at 154 or destroy monzon hagler hopkins srr or rjj at 160 like GGG fans claimed. I was simply a fan and not an overzealous one like ggg fans who claimed him to be the second coming there's a big difference in being a fan and disrespectful and irrational

Hyping a fighter and being disrespectful when hyping a fighter are 2 different things. Now if GGG had destroyed both Jacobs and canelo like his fans claimed he would do then he would be worthy of all this second coming hype and him possibly beating the atgs at 160 would be a legitimate discussion but he didn't. So yes im going to resent him and his fans and not let them off the hook easily.

Ruiz could not slip shots how Fury could, you can see that, AJ throws better combos and punches harder, Ruiz was slow as hell you could see that.

Are we talking about the same roy that got folded in half by a journeyman glen johnson? Worst thing you can say about GGG is he lost a very close fight to canelo who is a very good fighter and in his absolute prime.

 

He was even slower than what you just described. I may be wrong for this but even in the moment, Roy vs Ruiz, was similar to me watching him against Gonzales or Woods or any of the limited guys he fought at LHW.

I wasn't as impressed as most people were. I mean we couldn't have expected him to fight Lennox, right?

Still, I'd have rather seen him against Evander or Mike or someone else from around that time than Ruiz. Maybe Rahman or Tua if the timelines match up, or maybe a rematch with Toney at HW. Those are better fights to me than Ruiz.
