It's a shame we never saw Collins in the mix earlier with Benn, Eubank and Watson etc. But we have to give him credit for who he fought.

Mike McCallum was truly a great fighter. And Sumbu Kalambay was also great, with Reggie Johnson also being world class and very awkward.

There's no shame in losing to those guys, and the Johnson fight was very close.

McCallum was a step up from anyone that Eubank and Benn were fighting.

Maybe if Collins hadn't have gone to Boston with the Petronelli's, he could have been in the mix with them. But again, he deserves huge credit, because Eubank wouldn't have fought a guy like McCallum.

I agree with you though that his claim to fame is beating a faded Eubank and a shot Benn.

Like you've noted, when you see his fights against the likes of Eubank and Seillier, it's an absolute blessing that he didn't fight Roy back then. Because his bravery could have gotten him hurt, especially if they'd have fought in 1999, after he'd been inactive for 2 years.

Look, I think Unforgiven's point is true, even if Collins doesn't have as good of a resume. He's simply saying he's in their league regardless. I doubt think it's that outlandish, since personally, I think don't Eubank and Benn or all that special anyways

 

They were definitely on a similar level, despite their contrast in styles.
