true , but ruiz was in shape for the fight and the fact is he was a much bigger man than roy and roy came from being a middleweight in his early career so its still a massive acheivment
o yes, monzÓn probably would knock him out, hagler would make too much pressure and finally marvin would broke him down. Jones did not have a good chin and he never was tested in wars.
well, valuev and david haye was a bigger difference of size, and nobody give haye a **** of credit for this victory
Chavez had many breaks in his career..Taylor I, Randall II, Whitaker, to name a few, but in the span of his career, the competition he met and crushed legitimitely way over shadows Jones's feasts on the overall pitiful, poor quality of his opposition..and John Ruiz was so carefully cherry-picked..he was no real threat to Jones..Roy and his management knew just what they were doing.
yes but Valuev was SO BIG that actually he was imobile and i would put money on nonito donaire to win a fight with valuev
I don´t get that. How does Hopkins success know increase Jones resume? I don´t get that logic. He beat the Hopkins he beat, a good, rising contender. Not more, not less. Why aren´t you answering my question to you?
Ruiz is what he is a good solid fighter. Disliked through most of his career due to his ugly style of fighting and was just plain and simple boring. Didn't have no charisma to go with it either. There have been worse champs
i think that sums him up well , i personally feel chavez is overated , prime oscar prime chavez who wins ? id go for oscar tko
Why? He also moved up from mw to hw and he did more work there than Jones. You seem to be high on that, so you have to rank him up there by your logic.
i think that chavez is overrated by the mexican people but he is underrated by many people from eeuu. roy jones is absolutely overrated. in my opinion at middle monzón,hagler, robinson, greb would beat jones for sure, lamotta, leonard, carter and other guys would give him the hell, at lhw bob foster would absolutely destroy jones, spinks would beat him, charles, floyd patterson(at hw patterson would **** on his face), braddock, tarver( he did),archie moore, michael moorer would give him the hell.
As a fighter its much harder to achieve what Chavez did fighting in the style he fought. For that reason and the opposition he faced I rank him higher. Jones though, was probably physically more talented and achieved quite a lot himself, but given the talent and style he had, he should have faced more proven or more "media driven" legacy fights.
i said the fact he moves to heavyweight and won the title was one reason i rate him no the only reason , other reasons of course are his natural talent in the ring his speed his power everything about the guy not just the heavyweight thing , iran barkley is clearly not roy jones calibar
The thing is he did not win the title. He won a belt. Which was worthless since there was a rela hw champ around in Lennox Lewis. The belt he won wasn´t more worth than the one Barkley won. Ranking fighter on "natural talent in the ring his speed his power everything about the guy " is of course a very intelligent way to rank fighters.
