Ali has too much size for Jones, although I think Roy would have his moments. I just don't think he could mount a consistent offensive attack against Ali.

I think Ali's tendency to NEVER throw body shots would hurt his chances of knocking RJJ out and allow RJJ to have some pretty impressive counterpunching moments to Ali's body then head.

In fact, I think Ali's lack of body punches caused him to have tougher fights in his career than he should have had.

RJJ's most effective punch would be his slicing left hook to the body and his counter straight right would be more effective later in the fight.

The Ali that faced Frazier was 31-0-0 with 25 KOs (81 %) rate , KOs that came against guys like Liston, Banks, Patterson, Williams, Foley, Quarry, and Bonaveno, guys much more durable than Roy. He didn't NEED the body attack because he was so effective upstairs. And he exhausted his opponents by making them miss. And most of these guys were stronger than Ali. Roy would not have that advantage, allowing Ali to press the action more.

No-one Roy ever faced had the evasive moves and speed that Ali possessed, so his connect percentage would be lower than his usual.

Roy was one of maybe two or three boxers who possessed slightly more natural talen than Ali, but the other intangibles (heart, chin, ring instincts and movement) plus Ali's size, would result in an early rounds stoppage .

There wouldn't BE a later stage in this fight.

(BTW, I'm a big Roy fan).

Jet, I like I guy who thinks outside the box but you're thinking outside the town where the box is located. Ali would KO Jones. Ali's power was very underrated and he was pretty close to prime in 1971. Combine that with his significant reach, accurate combination punching, still serious speed, legendary chin, and ringsmarts, and you have a recipe for a bad night for Jones
