I thought it was,if you doubt me it won't be for the first time. Ask the guy who made the thread to make it public, why would anyone care if it was? Just checked it IS public, click on the votes bit to see.
Ever heard of styles make fights? Does it lower Ali's raing that he won only one decision and one late stoppage over Frazier and addiionally lost one to him while Foreman KOed him in 3 and 5? Why the difference with Jeffries?
Does that include the advantage of being thrown in with world class fighters in his first few fights? These guys might not have been 250lb behemoths, but they clearly wern't middleweights.
Jones was 35 when he was stopped by Tarver and Johnson ,he subsequently went the distance with Tarver, and he also went the distance with 30lbs heavier Ruiz. Jeffries was dropped by Johnson and stopped, he was 35 also ,if you give maximum weight to the former maybe you should give some to the latter?
Cyberboxingzone reports of plenty exhibitions of Fitz in 1901, 2 in 1902 and one with Corbett before the Jeffires bout in 1903. :good
They were as much heavyweights as the fighters that make up Rocky Marcianos resume, or indeed those that make up Sonny Listons resume. If you are going to use the argument that anybody under 200lbs is not a real heavyweight then the repercusions are going to go a long way. Now personaly I think that a "real heavyweight" is not so much a man over a given weight as a man who is not protected by a weight limit. Just because the heavyweight limit is set at 160lbs dosn't mean that you wont get matched with sombody who weighs 230lbs if you happen to weigh 161lbs.
Jeffries boxed his man. If the opportunity presented itself, he closedfor thet kill, a la Muro. If the opportunity presented itself. Jones would be boxing to make sure such an opporunity did not present itself and he absoltely excelled at it.
Jones was competative with Tarver and wih Johnson while the fights lasted, Jeffries not with Johnson. This indicates that Jeffries was far more done than Jones. And Jeffries came of a very long lay-off which, according to you, takes even more from the meaning of that bout.
