Looking at film of Fitz v Corbett ,do you think he looks more than his stated 167lbs?
Only 18months before he took the middleweight title from Dan Creedon ,scaling 155 1/2lbs.
Fitz again weighed 167 lbs 21 months later when he beat Corbett.
he was 31 when he beat Creedon ,and one month off 34 ,when he beat Corbett.
So its not a case of a young fighter putting on pounds as he matures.
Are you questioning these weights because Pollack does?
Pollack is a Jeffries man, I beleive, adding lbs to Fitz would not hurt Jeffries standing would it?

Corbett is in his mid-50's. I think they were just demonstrating some counters, parries and feints. By the way, Corbett kept himself in excellent shape, that is apparent. Unlike his famous nemesis of 1892.

It is not just Pollack that questioned the stated weights, it was also much of the contemporary media.

Looking at the Corbett fight photos I could believe that Fitz weighed 167, but he looks to have weighed more when he fought Jeffries.

The first thing that Fitz did after winning the middleweight title from Dempsey was raise the limit to 160 lbs so I doubt that he weighed 155 after that.

I do not think that Pollack has any particular bias towards Jeffries. He quotes contemporary sources in his book that are unfavourable as well as those that are favourable.

He replied to one of my posts that Fitz was 200lbs on occasion,I have difficulty swallowing that.
I havent read Pollack's Jeffries book yet ,it has good reviews, as does Pollack, but it's possible we see what we want to ,don't you agree?
Do you base your opinion of Fitz's weight against Jeffries ,on their photo ?
If you do ,you might also beleive that Fitz was considerably taller than Jeffries, instead of actually being inches shorter.

I got this idea too, but it feels too much like I'm watching a Charlie Chaplin version of boxing. I don't know what that means, but it makes sense to me.

I don't know about better, but he appears to have been much sturdier. He stood in with Peter Jackson for a whole 60 rounds and came out on top in a reportedly brutal war with Joe Choynski.

You are missing the supreme artistry of that era. So much has declined since.
