Lets see, if my memory is correct Hopkins was at his 17th middle weight defense. Thats pretty damn impressive. Paq beat Barerra (who was p4p best top 3) back then. Thats damn impressive, more impressive than Jones defeating Ruiz. Early in 04 Winky Wright beat Shane Mosley very impressive win back then. Toney's defeat of Vassily Jirov much more impressive than Jones defeating Ruiz. Jirov was a beast back then and a former gold metalist and the best cruiserweight champ in yrs.. Toney's destruction of Holyfield was much more impressive than Jones defeating Ruiz.

Shall I go on.

You brought up quality of opposition, who exactly did Hopkins beat at MW? So now its # of defenses that matter and not who they are fighting?

Wright over Mosley was not that impressive, Mosley never really belonged at that weight anyway.

Pac over Barrera was a great win, but not as signifying as Jones over Ruiz in my opinion. And certainly didn't make Pac #1 pound for pound.

 

You asked who did something more impressive back then other than Jones defeating Ruiz.

You think Jones beating John Ruiz (the biggest heavyweight embarrassment in 20 yrs) is more impressive than what Toney did to Jirov. I think you are in love with Roy Jones, thats what I think. You really, really love him. If gay marriage was legal you would marry him would'nt you?

Having Hopkins ranked pound for pound over Roy when Roy beat Ruiz is laughable, Hopkins was not doing **** at that time period. I am pretty sure Winky beat Mosley and Pac beat Barrera after Roy beat Ruiz... James Toney??? Over Roy pound for pound? In that time period?? You have to be joking. We all saw what happened when they were both young and the same size.

 

You do realize Roy moved to Heavyweight right? It isn't the same thing as just going up another division. Too big??? When you have an all time great Heavyweight monster in Lewis, that outweighs him by 50 lbs and is 7 inches taller and has almost a foot of reach, ridiculous power that is great at using his size, strength and is extremely skilled? Come on, even you realize that is not realistic.

I understand what you are saying, but the heavyweight division is different, its not like moving from 140 to 147 saying someone is too big for you, even though Pac moved up and made Cotto lose extra weight, but he gets a pass as a fearless weight jumper, bitching about 2 pounds against Cotto who was not even the best fighter in the division at the time? And you criticize Roy for fighting a fighter only 30 lbs heavier and not 50?

Heavyweight is heavyweight, you can be 50 pounds larger, to a man that started at 154...... you have to see the difference in that.

 

Roy is my favorite fighter, everyone on this site knows that, but I feel I judge his accomplishments by a pretty fair standard...
