to be honest this guys is right. people do like to put old timers on a pedestal and its naaive of anyone to dismiss it. after saying that he didn't say why he think this has a case so he wasnt confident ín what he said anyway....
Most old timers are very overrated. Few are as good as they are made out to be. Foreman is one of the few.
That Version of Jones is far removed from his prime. Schmeling beat Louis, Braddock knocked him down. A prime Jones toys with both. The question is, has boxing considerably evolved since the days of Louis? Louis is a great fighter in his era, yes. Boxing at that time also looks like a far more stationary sport, far less footwork. Can a prime Jones be beaten by someone who is not used to move around the ring with great speed? Is Louis' fantastic power less of factor against Jones if we take the 6oz gloves versus the 10oz gloves into account? If other sports have evolved so much since the 1930s that a Jesse Owens would not even make Olympic team today, why not boxing?
I think Jones would have a chance over 12 rnds vs Louis over 15 tilts in his favour. I think fighters from yeter year tend to get held in iconic status because they were pioneers of the sport, but lets not forget how far sports has come on since then. Jones is a freak @ his peak and would give anyone a fight.
