prime Calslappy had a very questionable decision against Robin Reid, many people think Reid won that fight. Joe C was a quality champ, but he's nowhere near the level of a prime RJJ. Funny thing is even the most rabid Joe C fans already know this, but they'll still post in this thread all day long saying **** even they don't believe.

Obviously everyone knows you're a delusional fanboy. Tell me how you can justify Reid winning the fight against Calzaghe fight please? Or did you just boxrec it, see the scorecard and decide to come out with this nonsense?

I didn't say it was a robbery, I said it was a very close fight. Are you denying it?

Do you really think Robin Reid gives prime RJJ a close fight? Or Joe C., for that matter? Let me answer: No, you really don't.

You didn't say it was a close fight, you said many think Reid won, so I'd like you to elaborate on that, and explain how Reid won.

Let's see, Roy was pushed by Montell Griffin in the first fight, and was losing on a judges scorecard, do you think Montell Griffin would trouble prime Calzaghe? See how your logic fails?

To make it fair, we have to ensure that this is Roy Jones post Richard Hall, because then we know for sure that he's not using steroids.

See what happened in round 1 of their fight when Jones was completely shot? If prime Jones landed that shot (not far fetched to think he would considering shot Jones landed it) then he would not let Calzaghe off the hook, it'd be KO1 for Jones

    Bailey,

Great debate. I'll answer your first reply to me first.

When I say Joe was a nobody, I'm not saying he was a bum or not important. He was a great fighter, but he wasn't well known outside of the U.K. He had many Title defences and the Eubank win at 25 was a great win, even though Eubank was nearing the end of his career. But Eubank wasn't a huge name outside of the U.K. either. Did Joe seriously expect Roy to come back down to Super Middle after 6 years at 175?

Joe in 2002 brought nothing to the table. Roy had Unified the 175 division and had sights on going up to Heavy. The fight was never a real possibility. Joe had to go over there, make a name for himself, and stir up interest in a potential fight. Joe could have had a few low key fights over there just to get himself noticed. I'm sure he'd have been a huge hit with U.S. fans.

Roy wasn't more comfy at Super Middle. He was in his 30's and was comfortable at 175. As each year went by, Joe found it harder and harder to make the weight. If he'd have gone up to 175 and made noises in the division, and fought some common opponents, he'd have had more of a chance of getting the fight. Joe would have made a lot more Money fighting at 175 in the U.S.

Who could Joe have fought you ask? Anyone that was known in America. It didn't have to be a huge fight. He could have fought on Undercards in the U.S. against lesser opponents for a few fights. The U.S. fans had only ever seen him box Rick Thornberry. Do you think Mayweather knew who Hatton was before he went over? Ricky built up a fanbase and then basicly goaded Floyd into a fight after he'd stopped Castillo. Floyd was outraged with Ricky's comments, and he told Leonard Ellerbe to get the fight.

I'm sure that Joe would have been more popular than Ricky and Naz etc. Also, what big fights were in Europe for Joe? The super middle division was one of the weakest divisions in Boxing when Joe was at his peak. He didn't like flying, but he did it. He was 8 years too late. If he can fly over when Roy's 39, he could have flown over when Roy was 32/33.
Us Brits would have loved to have seen Roy and Joe fight, but they wouldn't have been bothered in The U.S., because Joe wasn't known. They'd have been no demand for the fight.

Again, he said he wanted Roy, but he didn't do anything about it. I don't even know how anyone can argue that Joe seriously pushed for that fight. I don't want to keep repeating myself, but He didn't have a fanbase in the U.S. and they fought in different weight classes. They didn't have any common opponents, and the rest of the Boxing World outside of the U.K. had no idea who Joe was until 2006. How could the fight have been made? If you take all those things into consideration, how can you say he chased a fight?

He said in the video that's been posted, that he wanted the huge fights. Look at who he went onto fight after he made that statement. Frank has said numerous times that he wanted to showcase Joe Stateside, but Joe wouldn't go. Frank says he didn't believe he was as good as what he actually was. Apparently he nearly pulled out of the Lacy fight until Frank talked him around.

Roy doesn't have to fight in anyone's Country. He's American, and America is the home of Boxing. Roy was the P4P no.1 fighter in the World. He wasn't ever going to come to England or Wales. If you want a shot at him, you have to go to him. That's the way it is.

In 2008 two fighters who had ducked him for years were willing to fight him? Ha you're having a laugh!

So in 2006, Roy is washed up, but in 2008 he was back to his best? That's embarrassing! I don't know how Joe kept a straight face.

Did Joe even see the Ajamu fight? Did anyone? No big network covered it.

Did Joe see the Anthony Hanshaw fight? Again it wasn't covered.

He had two points wins against complete nobodies, and then it was Tito. Did you or anyone watch those fights, or the Tito fight, and say "Hey Roy looks great! He's back!?" Of course you didn't.

Tito is deemed as one of Bernard's best wins. Not by me, but by a lot of people. But there is a World of difference between the version of Tito that Bernard fought and the one that Roy fought. The Tito that fought Bernard was active. He was fit and he moved upto to 160. The version that Roy fought, had been inactive for over three years, and he struggled to make the 170 catchweight. I think he was two pounds over.

We know that Joe was old too, when he fought Roy. We know there's onlt three years difference. But the point is, Roy was finished as a fighter 4 years before he fought Joe. Joe said in 2007, that he was at his best. He said "This version of me would knock the Eubank version of me all around the ring. My hands aren't as strong, but I'm a far better fighter now" That's what Joe said a year prior to the fight with Roy. Roy on the other hand, had been knocked out twice over four years before their fight.

Roy adjusted his body back down to light heavy for Joe? The guy was nearly 40 years old!

Of course it didn't make sense for Roy to fight Joe. Because again, despite Joe being Great, he brought nothing to the table in 2002. But if he'd have fought at 175 in the U.S. it would have been a huge fight, and they'd have both got a massive payday.

What was he meant to do? Lose?

Mike McCallum was a 175 Title fight. Hill was a well known fighter who was a very good fighter.

Again, Joe could have mixed it at 175 with all the guys Roy fought, but he was happy staying at home defending his belf for Frank on Sky.

You can't have it both ways. If you're happy doing that like Eubank did, fine, no problem. But don't turn around and say you wanted the big megafights, when you did nothing proactive in getting one.

Once again you've mentioned that Roy had adjusted to the weight for Joe. Why?

    Roy was finished in 2004.

He'd been knocked out twice in 6 months at 35.

In October 2005, at nearly 36, and 3 years before Joe, he lost on points to Tarver in their third fight.

Just one year after Joe beat him on points, Danny Green knocked out Roy in the very first round. You make it sound as though Joe's win was impressive? Their 2008 fight has no bearing on would have happened if they'd have fought earlier.

Also, Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver could never have beaten Roy, if he'd have been at 100% physically and mentally. Roy beat better fighters than them.

I think Roy at his absolute peak, scores a TKO over Joe.

    Great debate.

    Regards, Loudon.

Calzaghe pulled out three times from fighting Glen Johnson claiming injuries, and then tried the same trick with Lacy. His selfconfidence was not good. Him pushing for a fight with prime Roy Jones seems like wishfull thinking, and his fans takes his word for it like it was proof.

Ali never hesitated to fight in Europe and therefore never neded to make excuses. Roy Jones avoided some tough challenges oversees, because there were easy paydays to make at home. Sorry to sound like MM, but thats the way I see it.

13 pages and not one single roy jones fanboy has mentioned steroids, i just can't believe the way they pretend this never happenned. I'm sure these fanboys genuinely believe that ben johnson is the greatest 100m sprinter of all time.

Go watch the fight again, Joe was HURT BIG TIME, then go read Joe's book when he's talking about RJJ, then put a shotgun in your mouth and pull the trigger!

1 - it was an illegal forearm :nut

2 - in what way was calzaghe hurt big time? did he stagger round the ring? did he spend the last 40secs of the round holding on for dear life? :think of course not, your just a roy jones fanboy trying to re-write history

3 - the most interesting comments in joes book is when he slams jones for being a steroid riddled disgrace . . . you probably skipped past that bit :rofl

It was a flash KD. Flash KD's are impressive also, but this one was not even legit. It was a forearm.

It's amusing how much Jones fanboys are holding onto a flash KD via an illegal blow. They've almost managed to blank out the following 11 rounds of total domination :deal
