Benn vs McClellan only proves what a sold referee can do in order 2 effect a fight's oucome . Neutral referee would have had McClellan stopping Benn no later than d 2nd rd , probably in d 1st . PPl who didn't watch this fight or watched it in FFW or watched it once or twice and forgot about it treat it as a masterpiece put by Benn . McClellan's real record : 2 stoppages over Jackson , 1 over Mugabi , 1 over Benn and a decision over Sanderline Williams , whom was better than Benn & Mugabi . McClellan never lost as a pro really and beat Jones when d 2 were amateurs .
Yea could have been stopped in the first not second. And Benn by the rules had 20seconds to get back in the ring anyway. All the rabbit punches and the headbutt needed reffing better though
I typed "no later than in d 2nd rd" as opposed 2 "in d 2nd rd" . McClellan was going 2 destroy Benn after Benn climbed in2 d ring (no complaints about him getting 20seconds instead of 10) but d referee kept getting between them and stalling d fight repeatedly . If u watched d fight and remembered it then there would have been no need of me stating it here explicitly again and again but 4d likes of yourself and 4d naive readers i do it . That referee just didn't let McClellan 2 finish Benn which he was doing . He stalled and stalled , let Benn recuperate and then allowed him 2 foul :
It wasn't a masterpiece by Benn at all. It was a brawl that highlighted McClellan's shortcomings ie **** defence and one dimensional style. Benn was Benn. Wild, awkward and aggressive but still there to be hit as well. The ref was ordinary but if McClellan was so much better than Benn he should still have been able to get him out of there after the first as Benn had already been battered. The fact is McClellan couldn't seal the deal because he wasn't used to someone punching him and backing him up and he couldn't handle it. McClellan's record was pus really. Sanderline Williams? Get the **** out of here. Just a contender barely. Jackson? Good win but he was smaller, older and fighting outside hi best division. Mugabi? Washed up,smaller and not that good to begin with. Jones Jnr in the Am's? Jones was 18-19 years old and hadn't come close to maturing. The Jones who was robbed in Seoul barely resembled the Jones who flogged Toney and that fight has no baring on what would've happened if they met as pro's,just as Pryor-Hearns or Augie Sanchez-Floyd Mayweather wouldn't have mattered in the pro's either.
This post is so full of **** which i repeatedly corrected and i still c it after all d time . this post is almost pure **** . except from d part about Mugabi and Jackson it is all wrong . And of course i don't think it was a masterpiece by Benn . That referee was d critical factor deciding d fight's outcome . Only thing he could have done more than he did 2 help Benn was 2 choke McClellan from behind and let Benn punch him , and then according 2u , McClellan would have won if he was good enough 2 judo drop d referee and then uppercut Benn from d floor and finish him . very very ordinary referee , like all of them . "McClellan wasn't used 2 some1 punching him" was probably d reason 2y he came in already damaged goods by d Jackson fight and who knows what else . How many of his fight have u seen ? Sanderline Williams may have been just a contender barely according 2d showbizz ranking , no doubt . He had 2 play d heel so he had 2 lose , until 1 watches his fights and cees d truth . Jones never wanted McClellan inside d ring with him and would have never wanted even if they never fought as amateurs . McClellan was just 2 big , strong , aggressive , durable and good 4 him . He knew McClellan would stop him if they fought . Jones' best chance at winning a decision would have been if they fought 4 6 rds max . And even then McClellan stood a good chance at stopping him . James Toney had 2b literally carried by his entourage from d weigh in 4 their fight because he was so dehydrated from "cutting d weight" . He wasn't himself vs Jones and Jones would have never agreed 2 fight him if he hadn't known how unable Toney was 2 effectively make d weight . True that Toney was about as drained vs David Tiberi , Reggie Johnson and most probably others as well . He should have solved his eating disorder or at least move up in weight sooner than he had . And again , your post is so full of **** and showcases such a huge deal of ignorance , it is 1 of d worst i've seen here in d last 4-5 months .
Arrogant f*ck. Im 35 years old i watched the fight as it happened and ive seen it many times since. Dont presume anything.
then maybe u were under some influence when u watched it , because u r not aware of it . like all d hooligans do :yep .
I'll need to watch the Benn-Mclellan fight again to be sure, but at the time I remember thinking that the ref was being remarkably lenient towrads Benn. Again posting from memory I could be wrong, but that's if I remember correctly. Anyway, great fight with a tragic ending. I can't watch that fight anymore. To the topic, I don't think that Gerald's power plays much of a factor here. Jones would not be there to be hit, and has the right tools to comfortably win a decision.
I watched it live... Benn was done in the first. He was out cold as he was going through the ropes. It should of been a first round stoppage for Gerald ;-)
