I think this round is up for grabs as well. Roy has an ARGUMENT for winning 4 of first 6 rounds + the knockdown in my book. thoughts?
4 of the first 6 rounds????? Did you acutally see the fight.? Jones won the 1st round obviously. might have sneaked the 3rd round but very close other than that it was all joe. sorry i mean round 2 not 3
He might have an argument, but it would be the worst, most flimsy argument in the history of arguments.
Sneaked the third round? :? Do you people watch fights? Calzaghe clowned Jones in round 3, it was one of his best rounds. Jones won round 1, round 2 was fairly even but I'd lean towards Jones since Calzaghe was still showing the after effects of being hit with a forearm. After that he did not get close to winning a round.
yes, I'm watching the fight now. I don't think RJJ won 4 of 6. I think he won round 1 clearly. Calzaghe won rounds 3 and 4 clearly. I think RJJ has a case for rounds 2,5, and 6.
Round 2 was close but thats it mate to be honest, joe took him to school after that, I don't think roy would even score those rounds for himself to be honest.
I think Joe taking roy to school is taking the ****. Joe won the fight without any doubt and full marks for doing so. Clean puches score not punches taken on the guard or punches with the inside of the glove. The amount of punches you throw should have **** all to do with who wins the round. The cut imo was the major factor in the fight roy went on the defensive to protect the cut simple . Taking nothing away from Joe C the cut came from a great punch and the last 5 rounds were all Joes but taking him to school a one sided beating I dont thinks Cotto took a beating by Margo
ok mate here is the punch stats for round 6 calzaghe 30/91 33% Jones 14/35 40% so calzaghe landed 5 less then jones threw only 8 of the 30 were jabs for joe and only 2 of the whole 14 were jabs for roy :good Ok round 2 was jc 23/76 rjj 8/34 total for the fight joe landed 344/985 rjj 159/475
Bro, I think Calzaghe easily won the fight. He won 7 rounds clearly. And 2 I gave him 2 relatively close rounds. The rounds I gave to RJJ were 1,2, and 5. If you would like to argue those I'd be happy too.
No, see this here's the problem. The other guy is FORCING you to put your guard up hence, if he throws so many that you are forced to bring your guard up and you're not coming back at him, that alone would mean he's dominating you. And even then, Calzaghe's ripping Jones at the same time with wicked body shots. For every one shot Jones lands, Joe lands 2 or 3 more. Some of them snapped Jones' head as well. Regardless of what people say, you can only win boxing matches with punching the other guy more than he does you. Defense will stop you from getting KTFO, but it shouldn't score you points.
Also, punch stats mean jack **** dude. It's all about clean effective punching. Did you see Tony Thompson-Wlad Klitschko? Thompson, I believe outlanded Klitschko through 10 rounds...But if you gave him more than 1 or 2 rounds, ur a nutcase. Anyway, round 6.... First minute...Calzaghe LANDS 7 decent shots. Roy lands 1 decent shot. Second minute...Calzaghe lands 5 decent shots. Roy lands 4 decent shots. Third minute...Roy lands 4 decent shots. Joe lands 2. Boom! Possibly the best punch of the night (right uppercut by jones). 2 decent shots by Calzaghe. I had joe landed 16 visibly decent shots. I had Roy landing 9. Roy's uppercut was an unbelievable punch. Roy really came on in that last minute. And that devestating uppercut, to me, makes it a close round. A round, I might add, I gave to Joe Calzaghe. But indeed a close round.
Clean effective punches only count if they put you in ***** street (barring the first round, nothing RJJ threw ever affected Calzaghe that Cal stopped firing back), force you into a guard helpless and they knock you down or out. Other than that, even if they are FLASHY, if the other guy disregards them and keeps on hitting you and FORCING YOU TO RAISE YOUR GUARD, then no, those "clean" punches of yours work the same way as the pit-a-pat shots Calzaghe throws.
