this is totally reasonable as well. i'm shitfaced so forgive the typos but jones ability and skills h2h are among the best ever. there are 3 lhw's i'd bet on against him...spinks happens to be one of them

just as likely though, jones throws that lead right down the pipe time and time again, embarassing spinks who's awkward, herky jerky fighting is useless when jones stays at distance

btw: spinks' power is VERY overrated. good but nowhere NEAR foster

    Good points.

BTW, I believe Jones one-shot power doesn't get enough press either.

his power was brilliant 160-175. his potshots still knocked out top contenders

We are talking about Jones of the 2nd half of the 1990s. He did them a lot. Add to that one-two that was as quick as other fighters' single punch, and double-triple hooks (including switching from head to body and vice versa).

Pure punching power and speed+precision are two different things. He didn't have that much raw punching power at 175lbs.

What happened more often, that Jones after getting tagged became timid, or that Jones' opponents after tasting his speed became reluctant and started throwing 1.5-2 times less punches that they did against any other opponent?

See, I can revognize Jones talent and ability. But we never seen him against a fighter of his class at his best. Many fighters look awesome before they step up. And when they do, they don´t anymore as much. It´s just not proven that he would look as good as he did against real top class fighters.

We've never seen Spinks or Foster against any ATG lhw.

True but against borderline guys like Qawi (for Spinks) and of course both stepped up to hw to challenge atgs. Jones stepped up to challange John Ruiz. Spinks shoewd he could hang in with an atg and a bigger one than himself. Foster didn´t really though but I don´t rank him as high as many do, still higher than Jones though (at lhw).

Bordeline atg? For beating Muhammad twice? Sorry, but that's too little an accomplishment to call someone even borderline great. Qawi's resume at 175lbs is just not deep enough for that.

Not at 175 where this fight would take place. Qawi cemented Spinks' greatness.

And yet Qawi's clearly better than anyone Jones ever beat at 175, unless we're projecting McCallum's Junior Middleweight greatness to 175.

RJJ wins - BUT only by Split-Decision IMO And 45% of teh time he loses SD.

I actually agree with you that Qawi gets a little overrated, but no, Virgil Hill is in now way better than Qawi.
