i'm gonna skip the first 6 pages and jump to the conclusion: ali beats him like he beat patterson in that first fight, except he has no reason to carry him 12 rounds

This. Ali puts Jones away. Hell even Clay UD's Jones for me... now Ali when he was Clay that was one hell of a fast heavy... I'm a Roy fan by the way but thats just a nonsense question.

That right from Ruiz in the first round of the fight that stunned Jones for a half second, would have been the nail in the coffin had it been an Ali right.:yep

yup:thumbsup he was stunned, briefly but ruiz has only moderate power at that weight and was not nearly quick or skilled enough to capatalize. i give jones til 3 then he's out

Yeah, I guess it would also be fair to say Jones would not have been as careless against Ali (i thought he got a bit careless with Ruiz a couple times)

Either way, Jones doesn't last too long against Ali, just too small. Not to mention the fact that Ali is one of the greatest HW's to ever live.:yep:good

Also, If there was one guy to be able to trick or outsmart Jones, it would be Ali.

Those picking Jones obviously don't have a whole lot of boxing experience themselves.

How do you figure Jones ever had more punching power than Moorer? Moorer was knocking people senseless. Look at his knockouts, he would literally change fights with a single punch. Some of the people he knocked senseless were heavyweights with good chins. Roy could never have hurt some of these guys.

Calzaghe I cannot talk much about, but Moorer definitely had more power than Jones. Moorer had so much punching power that people were afraid to spar with him. Listen to the people he has knocked out, they all say Moorer is the hardest puncher they have ever fought, and some of these guys are heavyweights.

Bear in mind also that Ali fought against elite, huge punching opposition in the era of 15 round fights and referees/doctors who were far less likely to step in and end a fight. That's toughness that Jones never even had to consider. That goes for pretty much any fighter who was competing before the mid 80s.

I said Roy was pound for pound the better puncher than Moorer, not that he actually hit harder.

You have to remember that Jones started at 154, and carried power all the way up to 175, where he broke a future hall of fame fighters ribs with a single shot.

I know Moorer had great power, I just think Roy had better power pound for pound, and was much faster.

But I do not agree with you when you say Moorer was in the same league as Tyson with power, that is not an educated statement.

Are u serious? Jones started his career at ****en Middleweight! Where he was at his best at Middle and Super Middle. He doesn't stand a chance at the greatest Heavyweight of all time. Although I think Jones would definitely last a nice amount of rounds tho. Ali Ko's him around round 7.

Roy does well for a few rounds just because of his raw athletic ability, but it wouldn't take long for one of the best hw of all time to get to him and either ko him or put him through tons of punishment through 12 rounds, and if it is a 15 round fight ko happens 100%. If you look at prior posts you'll see I'm a jones fan, but it is out right rediculous to say Jones wins

this is why I have Jones as a top 3 all time great.
we are comparing the best middle/super-middle of all time.. vs Heavyweights.
let us put in the Jones vs Ruiz vs The Ali vs Doug Jones, Doug was very small, Jones Jr would whip 4 fingers Doug..I pick Roy on points over The Ali who almost lost to Doug.
oh, i forgot Jones was one of the greatest at lightheavy also.
