look at what you are saying! holyfield has not one advantage over ali, ali is bigger, faster, smarter, more powerfulo, more athletic and hell he even has a bigger heart.

this would be a mercy stoppage about round 8

yes and zab judah was faster than ali also, doesnt mean he would beat him.

at HW rjj would not have a chance of beating ali. as i said p4p he might be comparable, but straight up HW contest is only ending one way

at hw jones did very good against a man he wasnt expexted to beat. and that is brilliant for his legacy, but it doesnt make him the best hw ever

This would of been a good fight. Both have speed, good foot work, and intellect. This fight probably would of went the distance in favor of Ali I think, mainly because of his reach and jab. If won by KO I will still give it to Ali because he had the better chin.

You act as if Ali never lost. Ali was more beatable than Jones at that age. At the age that Jones was fighting heavyweight he was seen as being unbeatable. If we are talking about a prime Roy Jones Jr, assuming he could bring his speed and power up in weight and keep his legs, considering nobody in any other weightclass could touch him, why should we believe Ali would suddenly be able to knock him out?

And thats the only way Ali can win, by KO. Ali cannot outbox Jones. So if Ali could land on Jones chin he could win the fight but thats the only way I see Ali winning. The only chance Ali would have to win is to pin Jones against the ropes and fight him in an uncharacteristic fashion. Ali physically is capable of winning but Roy Jones is one of the smartest boxers of all time when it comes to using his athletic ability.

If this debate were taking place right after the Ruiz fight the debate would be very different but because Jones has been losing and is old now, everyone forgets how dominant he was before his loss to Tarver. People were talking abuot him fighting Tyson and a lot of people thought he would win. He was talking about fighting guys like Lennox Lewis, and no I don't think he could win that fight but the fact that he's the only boxer that anyone could seriously talk about fighting Lewis means something.

Could he beat Ali? He could outbox Ali. Let's say the ring is big enough, the gloves are right, and the fight takes place in Florida, for 12 rounds, would you still bet on Ali? I'd put my money on Jones. It's not because Ali isn't great, it's because Jones was damn near impossible to hit and would go for an entire round without being hit. Ali wasn't that hard to hit. Also Jones had better footwork than Ali, Jone's footwork was what allowed him to jump in and out of range with such ease. Ali would have had problems landing anything until after the 7th round, where he might be able to land something but what if he can't land his power shots? If he cannot land his power shots the fight will go to Jones.

It's very much like Jones against Tyson. If Tyson with his fast hands would be able to actually land his power shots on the chin, Jones would obviously be knocked out. The problem is I don't see Tyson being fast enough to land a shot on the chin without taking 10 shots in return.

Ok Floyd. I just broke down the fight. I said Jones is a better boxer, with better defense and footwork. That Jones would win against Ali using his defense and footwork, not using his power. I said Ali has a chance in this fight and that his only chance would be to win by KO. The same chance Tyson would have to win. I do not think it would be possible athletically for Ali to outbox Jones because that Roy Jones Jr was perhaps athletically the best boxer of all times, or at least the best since Sugar Ray Robinson. The amount of punches and weapons Jones had along with the speed, footwork and ring intelligence would make a difficult night for anybody to beat him P4P, that includes Ali.

That being said if Tua could beat Moorer in the first round, it's certainly possible that Ali could knock out Jones by bodyshot or something similar.

Jones had only one fight at hw against a B class opponent and now you think his going to beat Ali based on that?

With all due respect my friend, i realise boxing is all about opinions but nothing you have said has changed my mind from my original post. What your claiming is,IMO, ludicrous. You talk about speed, athletisism, defense and footwork. Have you actually seen Ali fight circa 1966? You either havent or your deluded.

I think Jones would have been a great heavyweight back in the days when heavyweights barely topped 200 Lbs. As well as a great crusierweight.
I like him aginst Dempsy and Marciano. I'm not saying that he wins for certin, but I like him in these matches.
All this being said. I beleve that Ai would win. Jones may be faster but Ali is fast too. Ali is longer and can catch Jones when he trys to come in. Ali's lack of body work may hurt him, but based on styles and that I think hes smart enough to keep outside. I like Ali in this one.
