Word is that Paddy F is working on GG staying on opponents chests in sparring and has a few rangey amateurs with low hands to work with right now, the belief being that Froch can't fight inside and doesn't get started until the 7th round. GG will try to end it early! Possibly within three rounds. Mistake??
i think any gameplan dependent on knocking out froch is intrinsically flawed. it's hard to understand why gg would start any differently, he might look to smother later in the fight once he's knackered.
I think this fight goes the same way as the last one but ends earlier and no game plan'll help double G. The bookies agree..
So his going to try to do what Ward did to him? don't think Groves should do this he probably wont get away with as much holding that much and if you stand that close to Froch you are going to take a lot of hits. His best bet is to try and do what he did last time for 12 rounds and stay out of distance of Froch and jab and pick his moments for attacks
I said in a prediction thread before, Groves has to take him out in 6, nothing to do with Froch starting to slow its just as soon as Groves gasses Froch will stop him When they both have energy Groves is clearly better and can land at will but its no good if hes going to tire so thats why I think he has to use all his advantages and try and bomb Froch out early
Tying up Froch in close will just result in Groves receiving lots of rabbit punches which will go unnoticed by the ref lol
It's an idiotic plan :good Put it this way, Groves and his team had their entire professional lives to plan for the first fight. And this WASN'T the strategy they chose. Either this is essentially an admission that ALL their meticulous pre fight planning for the first fight was completely wrong. Or they think it was correct, but wasn't good enough and are gambling on a Hail Mary. My opinion: Froch stops Groves in about 3 rounds whatever 'plan' they choose this time around. The only people they will be outsmarting and confusing are themselves :yep It reminds me a little bit of Audley's 'strategy' of taking David Haye into 'deep waters' of the second half of the fight.
Firstly Froch is a up and down starter. He's shown in big fights with Abraham, Bute and Kessler II that he can start fast. He then shown against Taylor, Ward and Groves that he can take a while to get going. I felt the first round vs Groves was actually pretty even until the KD. Froch claims he was cold going into the ring. Whether that's true or not only people around him and himself know that. I've seen Lee Selby continue his warm up in the ring before at O2 because he was rushed on. So it does happen but Groves got his prep right and gave himself a massive advantage early on. With regards to smothering it's all well and good getting in the pocket but it's down to technique, skill and intangibles. On the inside in November i never found Groves being that strong like Ward. I never found him to be showing off that great a skill inside and when he opened up in the pocket he left himself open to counter unlike Ward. Often Groves would try rough stuff such as leaving the head on Froch (Froch was at it blatantly as well) as they broke and often would open glove and turn to side and not work inside and when he tried to Froch pushed him back when Groves tried to force Froch back. It was Froch working inside rather then Groves. When Groves did open up he'd fall out of position and pull full guard whilst standing square on. By being inside he allowed himself to get roughed up a little like Dirrell and to be marked up facially and allow Froch to do some damage even if it wasn't major. Can Groves stay inside and swim without getting wet?. Why wasn't this done the first time?. If this is a way they think the fight will be won why didn't they utilize this on fight night and close the show?. No disrespect to Fitzpatrick and i may be wrong but i didn't see Groves evolve in the fight he continued in the same vain throughout and actually lost his way. They've looked at Froch's weaknesses and they are there for all to see so nothing mindblowing but one thing you must look at when preparing your fighter is to look at what your mans good at and what he's not good at and what puts him in danger. A three round dust up is all well and good but kill or be killed wasn't the mentality the night they fought nor was it the plan going in it was about being tactically and technically clean and pure. Odd IMO..
I wouldn't say Froch is entirely toothless inside, but he does prefer to get full extension on his power if he can help it.
I don't see Groves doing anything different. If he gets a good head start he could coast to a win with a disciplined performance. Problem is Groves always starts swinging when he gets tagged. Same problem as Khan. I can't see how he fixes this.
I think groves has got froch's number all day long! His footwork alone is a class above compared to froch, I'm a froch fan but I think this time around groves will catch froch early again but this time finish the job.
