Yeah, I reckon Whyte might bamboozle Joyce with his rock solid southpaw tactics In reality, Joe laughs at Whyte and puts him away inside 4 rounds.
I'm the exact opposite - I don't understand for the life of me why so many guys seem to rate Joyce as highly as they do... Sure, he's mostly looked good in the fights he's had but he hasn't exactly been fighting contenders or champions... He's been fighting gatekeepers (Takam), prospects (Dubois) and journeymen. We don't have a clue yet what Joyce's level might actually be because he's not proven it yet, though hopefully will! Sure, Whyte has declined and was absolutely steamrolled by Fury, but he's a way more proven fighter than Joyce is - to think it's a one-way street in the opposite direction of the evidence isn't something I'd do.
He hasn't fought anyone of note yet because the guys a machine and nobody wants it if they're not obliged to. As someone already mentioned, to much risk, little reward... Look I'm not saying he's TBE but he's definitely better than people credit him for, if you cant see that, then I don't know what to say. Nobody has an easy night with joyce. FACT! It's a funny old game isnt it, look at how over hyped average paint dry parker was and still is by some and joyce makes easy work of paint dry 7 days a week, twice on a sunday. You ask people why they rate parker and they say... errr, he has fast hands.. gtfoh... lol Odd old game innit! Lol
No disrespect to you, but this line is quite often bollocks. That's not to say to say that it certain fighters don't routinely avoid anyone with a pulse (there are clearly guys who do), but there's enough good fighters out there who will fight near enough anybody - so why are his best wins still not particularly significant? Perhaps the risk/reward dilemma is at play... On the eye test he looks decent, which means there's more risk that he can step up than there is with a clear donkey. But that risk element is only half the dilemma - Joyce's team still controls how much reward they're willing to share/concede... A lot of the time a fighter claiming to be avoided is simply asking for more money than their profile justifies and/or more than it's worth for someone good to risk losing badly to them. Or in short - Joyce does control the risk/reward, it's a poor excuse. I don't know where you've been hanging out but there's a significant number of people on this board that put him somewhere between 5 and 10 on their personal rankings... That, IMHO, is massively overrating him on the basis of what he's actually done so far. Let's not forget his most noteworthy wins are: 1) A dude whose reputation is still dining out on the fact that on the best performance of his career he took 2-4 rounds off Wlad, deservedly losing a very clear UD. 2) An exciting prospect, albeit one who hasn't beaten his first gatekeeper yet. To be getting ranked top ten when that's the case seems wildly premature to me... He might well be top ten, but he's getting old and needs to prove it fast. Funny, I don't recall watching that fight... Or are you simply assuming he would and using your assumption to justify how good Joyce is? In which case, why not skip this step and simply say "I have total faith in Joe" and refuse to engage in any kind of argument at all? Parker's not massively inspiring but just look at who he's beaten... Even scraping past Chisora twice pisses all over Joyce's resume... And that's kinda the point - to use the tired old cliche "there's levels to this ****", and the way you judge levels is on performances against better opposition, not on who does a better looking job of crushing a can or two.
I find it funny that people suggest that Parker is scared of Joyce when he stepped up and fought AJ at a time when he had stopped every opponent before him.
