Langford is one of the greatest ever , but only for what he did in his own time. His greatness wouldn't carry over to later era's. He'd have next to no chance against Louis.
You have to favor Louis based on his superior size and his own exceptional skills but I would never bet this fight ... Sam had the power to change it with one shot ..
Rubbish post The langford of the filmed Jeanette fight defeats any version of Louis You know nothing of the sport
No ,he was too open and had too many holes to exploit. He fought more in line with the broughton rules than the sweet science. He approached his opponent with his hands down low , as was the way back then. Louis blows a hole right through him. Too crisp , sharp and accurate.
Langford deployed a high guard but would occasionally drop his hands to draw a lead and set traps but I wouldn't expect you to realise this as you don't know much about boxing obviously Louis' dodgy chin = langford by ko
No, the high guard didn't exist back then. He and other would employ catchers mitt parrying technique . That worked against tug boaters , carnies , hobo's , textile merchants etc .. but it would be completely ineffective walking into a savage puncher like Louis who would pounce on Langford before he ever got into range and spark him clean out. These guys used just grind away at each other till the other could take no more. Langford never seen nothin like Louis in the ring.
The high guard has existed since the birth of boxing You sir are a first class idiot You know zero about this great sport or langford you're what the kids these days call a troll Langford destroyed 220 pound men on a regular basis Joe Louis is a walk in the park for Sam
The 250 pound men he faced were useless slow bums who do not compare to the modern super heavies And you ducked all my other points
But the 220lbs men that Langford beat were all top class? Please name some of these 220lbs men that Langford regularly ko'd? The only one I can find is novice George Godfrey.:think
