If Langford has a crushing left hook, then he is in the fight.

    Otherwise, Langford gets TKO'ed.

How is Langford at 5 foot 6 with a 70 inch reach going to close the distance against a guy as fast and good on his feet as Ali? This ain't that Mummy Wills? And sure, anything can happen if they fight 20 times but let's be reasonable.

He most likely wouldn't have a chance unless ali was clowning with him.

Still, i'd say bigger upsets have happened in the sports history, no?

Ali was a bout the worst style for Sam at heavyweight ... large huge reach, great jab, fast , strong and a terrific chin ... Ali by big decision ..

agreed. sam could easily be lb 4 lb the greatest ever but in this h2h matchup, sam holds no advantages.

Many people pick Langford to beat Johnson, and pick Johnson over Ali. Yet they do not give Langford a chance against Ali.

    I find this peculiar.

(Personally, I think Ali obliterates both Johnson and Langford under modern rules).

People who pick Johnson over Ali are deluded and silly... even Ali.

In fairness, I think that most boxers today don't know what they're looking at when they see old fight films. They think they're watching modern boxing and critique accordingly, but they're actually watching a very different fist-fighting martial art that developed thanks to different rules.

If we switched to MMA gloves and allowed more clinch-fighting, fighters would start looking a bit more like Johnson. Not exactly like Johnson, but closer.

I doubt that Ali "obliterates" any ATG heavyweight at the top of their game.

Of Langford's opponents who was the best jabber?
I think we could go with Fulton.Fulton beat Langford twice .
That's why I brought his name up.
Langford had more left in tank when he fought Fulton than Ali did when he lost to Spinks.
    Langford went on to beat.
    Flynn
    Tate
    Flowers
    Jackson
    Jeannette
    Norfolk
    Clark
    Godfrey
    And draw with Wills

Ali had three more fights after the Spinks defeat ,he scraped a dec over Spinks, was thrashed by Holmes and , beaten decisively by Berbick.
In the last two fights he did not win a round.
Bad analogy on your part ,J.
