Walcott had fast cagey jolting left hooks out of nowhere, a beautiful counter right hand, tremendous upper body movement and footwork, stiff jab...he would have trapped the **** out of Jeanette with a left hook and knocked him senseless. Different eras, boxing evolved so much more by 1955. Combination Punching, stance, etc was much better Langford fought completely flat footed, Marciano would have no trouble finding him
Ya because he started as a lightweight. No different than Archie Moore being rated 4th greatest puncher of all time yet you claim he wasn't a puncher at heavyweight
Jeanette, mcvey and johnson were very skilful fighters Charles, Walcott and louis great as they were happened to be past prime Langford's career dwarves marciano's acheivements and that's without holding any real titles

No ,I claim he wasn't a great puncher at heavyweight. The difference is a large proportion of Moore's ko's were at the lower weights. Langford was knocking out cold heavyweights when he himself was a middleweight! Marciano usually wore down his opposition with non-stop barrages of heavy punches, he was able to accomplish this because of his superlative condition .Langford took guys out clinically with shots that came out of the blue and often against the run of play,eg against Wills. I would guess he was a better finisher and more accurate than Marciano , pure velocity of punch may have been about equal. I don't think we can be too dogmatic about it either way.
Come on dude. Open up your eyes, watch Walcott in 1952, and then watch Jeanette in that Langford film. Who looks better? It's easily Walcott. He would have destroyed Jeanette , embarrassed him. Simply in a different class.
Moore went 22-1 with 19 knockouts against men above 200lb. Is that a large enough sample for you? Langford got that number 2 rating for his work at the lower weights much like Archie
Good then give Marciano credit for knocking his block off in 1955 when Moore had won 45 of his last 46 fights.
