$4.1 million split between 2 fighters = $2.05 million each. Pavlik made $2.5 million for Gary freaking Lockett. $3 million for Hopkins, and by all accounts he stands to make a touch over $3 million for Williams.
The Lockett and Hopkins type money isn't available any more and you know it. A $2million split purse for Sturm, but a $6million purse for no-name Williams? atsch Just post a link to a source stating the money Pavlik will earn for the fight and all will be well in the world.
I think it was a front page story hear. A couple years old now. I'm not going to bother digging it up. I don't have time to look up stuff for people that don't bother following along.
No way I see the likes of Dirrel and Ward steeping right into $2 mill per fight. I heard $800K per fighter for the first round. Not sure where that figure comes from since the information seems to be a tightly guarded secret now. $800K would certainly fall into the 'peanuts' range Pavlik mentioned.
Nobody is arguing that Pavlik will probably make more for the Williams fight than the super six contestants will make for ONE fight. But you and Hermit have both insinuated that Pavlik's purse for Williams will be higher than the purses for ALL THREE fights each of the fighters has in the first round of the tourney COMBINED. Meaning $6 million. And how much Pavlik made for fighting Lockett is irrelevant considering he's been on HBO once since then and HBO's fight budget has come crashing down recently. Pre-2009 purses were artificially inflated, as is evident in the fact that Pavlik is probably only making $500k more for the Williams fight than the Lockett fight, when in reality the gap between Lockett and Williams is far greater than $500k.
$800k sounds somewhat unbelievable, considering Kessler, Taylor (and probably Abraham as well) are all accustomed to multi million dollar paydays. And $2 million per fighter, per fight is just an average. Some fights will have bigger budgest than others and some guys will get bigger splits than others; not everything is automatically 50/50, as we saw when Sauerland and DiBella negotiated to make it 50/50 to send Taylor to Denmark in the 2nd round. The fact that the monetary details around the tourney are so closely guarded is enough in and of itself to question any claims about how much more Pavlik is making than the six of these guys. The truth is, nobody knows.
Quote: ... It is being reported that Williams will make somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 million, and Pavlik will receive around $1.75 million ... http://fightfan.com/2009/08/pavlik-vs-williams-set-for-oct-3-on-hbo/
According to Tom Tocca, AA got around $800K per fight if I remember correctly. Not sure where the overall budget number comes from but that might be total including production costs. Pavlik must have heard some numbers to make the comment he did.
Read a little deeper... Pavlik will receive around $1.75 million plus the live gate, which could amount to a couple of million dollars.
Yeah but Abraham for example will also receive money from the German TV station ARD + % of the live gate Remember even Felix Sturm gets about 1 million Euro = 1,47 million $ for fighting nobodies just for the German television rights alone per fight
That article is from long before negotiations closed. Goosen asked for $2.5 million, 50% of the live gate, and 50% of the endorsments. Top Rank said "no" and Pavlik said "make the ****ing fight." HBO kicked in more money, and Goosen became more realistic.
So what? Pavlik makes alot fighting Williams then does mandatory bum fights for peanuts. At least the supersix are getting guaranteed super salaries for each consequtive fight - it all adds up to more in the long run. plus endorsement. Plus legacy. S6 > any HBO deal.
