I do kind of wish Alvarez's last two fights had been against actual light middleweights - if only because by now then we'd have had a rematch and rubbermatch between Matthew Hatton and Lovemore N'Dou instead of them each facing Canelo. :p (same size and much more evenly matched, and have unfinished business with a draw)

In a 12 round fight Martinez will find canelo's chin with some big shots. Whether canelo soaks them up or not I dont know.. But I'll go out on a limb and say he does not.

    LOL.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hatton fight Berto, such to see Berto fight an actual welter.

You're right, but that fact should be pretty telling. Donaire, who is truly an elite fighter, was able to land that beauty on a fellow elite fighter. Alvarez just pummeled a guy who was nowhere near elite, and never could land it.
So he's either not elite boxer, or does not have a great power.

I can't believe people brought up Martinez as an opponent right now for Canelo. Martinez's experience, height, reach and boxing ability would give Canelo nightmares. Martinez would hit him at will.

I guess he did what he needed to do. Hatton did negate his offense well ducking twisting and covering.

However he needs to work on his power or move down to WW where his power will be a major factor. His combination punching is JMMesque. No not as good but he is showing very good combinations. Chin seems OK but just ok not great.

A little disappointed in the performance myself.

Oh - and to people who think Alvarez's power is smoke and mirrors (even at 154)...look at the run he was on before N'Dou. He knocks out guys that you aren't supposed to knock out - only he's not done so these last two times.

It just happens that while neither is much better than "above average" as overall packages (at welterweight, let alone higher) N'Dou and Hatton are both incredibly sturdy and crafty survivors.

I think the answer is he's not an elite boxer. I think he has good power. He may be some day, he's still ridiculously young, but not yet.

I remember Canaelo getting rocked by Cotto's brother. I think any of the top 154 guys kill him, hell I got Berto killing him at 147 because he is a huge WW.

Martinez would be a horrible match up for Alvarez right now. I can't imagine any circumstance where GBP would go that route though.
