Fighters who have been involved in such a tragedy are usually never the same after they come back to the ring! its a really sad thing! Rip roman
This was a freak accident, I hope Roman's family doesn't hold it against Sergey and I hope Sergey doesn't blame himself and let this destroy his life.
Has any boxer quit boxing after causing the death of his opponent? There may well be, but I don't know of any. They say Emile Griffith stopped trying to KO his opponents when he had them hurt. But he did not quit. I guess for the moment, he does not want to think abut his future in boxing. But most likely he will be back to fight before too long. And I did propose a change to try to prevent this again on another thread and did not get any response. I say have the docs examine each fighter automatically between all rds. Lengthen the interval by 30 sec if need be. Just saw the new McClellan-Benn doc. ANd G man's cornerman was disgusting. Actually said it is the ref's job, not his, to stop a fight!! So someone has to do more, thus my proposal, since cornermen may be ignorant or corrupt.
The last sentence is very true! If i think about it shannon briggs was close to beeing killed by his cornerman and referee!
Absolute respect to Kovalev, in light of the Margarito scandal to see a fighter dedictate his next fight and purse like this is truely touching in such an unfortunate tragedy. RIP Romka

I hope that means he WILL fight again, he's a very gifted fighter. I bet that scumbag Bob Arum is licking his chops, thinking about how he can turn this tragedy into promotional gold and make a fortune on Kovalev's next fight. Sigh ....

I am talking long term here. Obviously any decent person will be traumatized in the short term, and to some extent perhaps always. Those of you who have not seen the great documentary, Ring of Fire--about Griifth and Paret--might want to see that now.
Most boxers who are involved in fights where their opponent dies do fight on, although there have been instances where they're clearly not the same fighter. Gabe Ruelas is probably the most poignant example of this.
