Seriously I just don't get it with Martinez, why is he rated so high? his two best wins have been vs Williams (Who was outboxed by Quintana) and a Pavlik who was coming of a humilating loss to Hopkins. This makes you top 3 p4p does it? if Martinez was as good as everyone says he is why don't he move up to 168lbs where the real fighters are.

The only fights ive seen of him are the ones on youtube, and most of them are not very long:good But from what ive seen he seems to be very patient when waiting for openings and trying to get inside to land his bombs, particularly against taller men. But hes fairly short and the defense he utilizes is mostly blocking and parrying punches with his gloves. A quick footed boxer like Martinez would always give him big trouble. And there could be a few other fighters who could cause him trouble, like Sturm or even pirog.

So have we come to the inevitable conclusion yet?

Golovkin. 'He's the only man out there...'

Who are the other men out there? :scaredas:

    (with a legit chance)

Pirog, maybe. I doubt it. But maybe. He'd have to be a damn sight better than his last outing.

Maybe Sturm, Martinez got hit by some good jabs by Sergei dzinziruck, and Sturm does have a good jab and a world of experience, ya never know:think

Thats highly doubtful. I think Felix is a bit too...'robotic' to trouble Martinez. If its not the right hand its the jab, and if its not the jab its the right hand. That makes him very easy to get into a rhythm to for Martinez, and very susceptible to counterpunches when Martinez has a feel for him. Even Barker has more variation than Felix.

Do you think Barker could beat Sturm?

He may be robotic as you said, but hes much bigger and stronger than Dzinziruk. And we havent really seen how Martinez deals with ''boxer'' at middleweight. Sergei aside of course, who was a smaller man anyways. I dont really give Golovkin much of a chance against Martinez anyways, unless he can land a huge hayemaker.

I don't think Sturm is as strong as you think. Physically he may take that appearance but the truth is he's fought a steady diet of no hopers in Germany that can make him appear to be just about anything. Except Koji Sato obviously, but the truth is Koji was just about to nail him with a huge counter when the ref stopped it.

Felix Sturm has fallen apart before under pressure. He hasn't fought anybody with a punch or any kind of ring presence or ability recently to test his strength. I don't think he's strong myself, I think he likes to sit in and box at his own pace. When he's taken out of that pace I don't think he's comfortable, I don't think his stamina is top notch and I believe he'll be stopped again. He's a very one dimensional almost amateur like fighter to me, where he does one thing pretty well but I don't think its backed up by pro qualities such as real physical strength and character, and there is never any variation either. A case in point is the Gevor fight, he was roughed up and outhustled, against a very small man who he had a skill advantage over. Castillejo was one of the best fighters he fought Oscar aside, and he was stopped unable to cope with the pressure.

If he's put in with Golovkin, I guarantee it gets messy quickly and Sturm is intimidated by the Kazakh's power. Same with Pirog, Pirog breaks him down. I think Barker would be a very good fight, I don't see why Barker could not beat him. I think Barker has speed and variation over him, even if he suffers for experience. Sturm is not going to blow him away, so Barker being a fairly well schooled kid is in with a shot.

Let's see if Golovkin can stop Ouma, then we can talk. He's looked really good against a bunch of no-hopers but so did Lemieux ;)

True, I'm sure Kassim will be a good test. Stopping him would be a serious statement.

Read on ringtv.com that Golovkin beat the **** outta Alfredo Angulo up at Big Bear recently. He is the goods, watched a lot of his fights and i think he beats Martinez. Technically class and has huge power.

I think you're underrating him a bit, I think he sometimes doesnt fight to his ability. He does the basics well and its worked for him up to now. And hes always shown the ability to adjust in a rematch and win clearly. He is a fairly big middleweight regardless of his ko record, and he must have at least some power as evident in his last ko against Herans ( although Hearns obviously isnt world class) He probably wouldnt beat Martinez either way, but he could pose some problems for Martinez, as Dzinziruk was able to for a few rounds. I think hed be able to handle Martinez power a bit better than sergei anyways.

Cant see Golovkin beating Martinez though, seems to one dimensional though as ive already said. Id give Barker a shot at beating Sturm but no more than id give Macklin and at least Macklins power could keep him in the fight. Barker may looked faster and have more punch variation at the level hes fighting at, but he could find it a whole different story when he steps up to Sturms level.
