Sergio Martinez suffers broken hand and is out for rest of 2013

Would any of you retire in his place? Not likely!

Wait around for the better part of a year and let a top contender emerge then fight for a huge payday. Pretty good work, if you can get it.

 

He needs to retire he is washed up.

 

He's been a good champion and a very entertaining performer.

Not sure I'd even care to see GGG take him out given how he looked tonight unless it is as Kevin Willis said. HBO is going to be pushing Golovkin even harder now.

 

Sucks. He was a likeable fighter that had a great run.

 

Retire and do what for living? Of course he'll fight more.

 

How so? Chavez scored ONE late knock down on sergio, other than that he didn't take much damage. injuries and father time caught up to Sergio.

 

Sure he did...he didnt do **** for 35 minutes of that fight yet the 1 minute he did something, he ruined Sergio?

Such a dramatic drop off. If he takes the whole rest of the year off he should retire, but Id want to see him take one decent fight to see if it was just a severe case of rust. He looked absolutely electric against Chavez Jr. and the worst I've ever seen him tonight.

 

More like a broken ego.

 

The guy's had a good run and his body is obviously tearing down.
I wouldn't begrudge him If he retired tomorrow, though I would obviously like to see him having one last fight against one of the top dogs.

Chavez ruined Martinez' hand with his granite chin. And he also ruined Martinez' knees cuz of all the running and forcing him to crawl up and off the canvas twice. You are 100% correct. Chavez is a BEAST.

 

Got knocked down.

Got knocked down again but it was somehow ruled a slip... When it clearly was not.

Won the first 3 rounds clearly.

Won the last 2 rounds pretty damn close; one could debate that Murray won them.

Only round between them that I scored for Sergio was the 7th (don't quote me on the particular round as I didn't write down my scores and won't pull up another window to check).

Lost what I believed was 6 DECISIVE rounds. They were shockingly in Murray's favor. Sergio didn't land jack **** in the grand scheme of the fight; Murray did a great job of completely blocking most of the punches Sergio threw and partially blocking the rest of his shots. Sergio landed very, very, very, very few flush shots the whole night. Murray on the other hand landed clean shots. What was most surprising was that Sergio's shots had no affect whatsoever on Murray spare for round 12 while Murray managed to bobble Sergio's head and lift him off the ground with even his weaker shots and jabs. Sergio's low hands and willingness to eat shots cost him here.

+ the KD; he lost the fight in my opinion. + what should have been another KD = more controversy.

No robbery here, but I really thought I was generous to Sergio; I see no way that Murray lost more than 6 rounds and when you factor in the KD, the better man got a slight hose job.

he got KD twice and beaten from pillar to post for half of the match, his punches had no effect on Murray and looked more fragile than ever

He even bitched about an unexistent low blow and a head butt so he could take little rests, got pampered all the time by a biased referee who was stopping the fight at Martinez' will, and even gifted him with a slip when he got KD' for the 2nd time

Murray got shafted big time
