Setanta might show Darchinyan v Agbeko

can you really see anone cancelling there subscription with setanta because they dont show this fight? or signing up for that matter?

Setanta, just like sky, have boxing fans in exactly the right place. they show just about enough fights that you don't cancel or need to sign up, and there is nobody else showing the fights they do not pick up.

If someone was to setup a decent streaming site, that bought the UK rights to 1 fight a week, always the biggest fight not being shown by UK TV, how much would you guys pay per year to subscribe?

 

also i doubt it doesn anything for boosting sibscriptions.

That's true, but I'd pay an extra few quid a month for the fights they don't show... They could have a dedicated boxing channel for a couple of pound more than the £10.99 a month charge.

Well there already are streams that show it for free...

 

the problem is if you look at it on an individual fight basis, what is a 'subscription boosting' fight?
if froch v taylor isn't one, then that really means only hatton, khan, and haye would be - and 2 of them are tied to sky. so this 'won't boost subscriptions' argument is load of bollox to me - they will get and maintain boxing fan's subscriptions by providing a consistent service of quality fights. not having froch is a major gap in providing that service and its not on.

and for reference, i cant watch any live boxing anyway in thailand and my internet is crap so i just have to download the next day - i just dont like the way boxing coverage is going, and especially that froch isnt getting his just rewards for taking such a risky first defence. its such a worrying precedence for a sport already not catching mainstream attention.

 

I agree, Rob just loves getting stuck into Setanta despite all the positive things they've done.

And this is Setanta's fault why exactly? They've never shown a Froch fight before so it's Sky and ITV who are showing a lack of commitment to Carl here. It's also very likely Hennessey is asking for too much cash.

How does Setanta, a subscription channel, help bring boxing to the mainstream by showing more of it? Seems like something of a contradiction there.

 

fair points, but i think people never really expected ITV to show live coverage of froch at this time. sky are just useless so i guess setanta do get the flak for being the only realistic option. i think it is the fact they call themselves the home of boxing which makes people angry towards them. if they just said 'we do a great boxing package' people wouldnt expect so much.

 

yes but those sights our bad quality and inconsistent.

I am thinking of setting one up. it would be high quality. Im thinking this.

1) Show at least 2 fights from outside of the UK each week, these can be watched live or downloaded the next day from a site where the result will not be shown.
3) Have archive of all fights previously shown
4) Have detailed analysis, video and written previews and reviews of fights.
5) Guarenteed high quality.

go for it mate im intrested but isnt it alot of money how long before its set up

 

i pay 10 dollars a month to a site where the quality is sweet and all bg fights are shown its the way to go these days, you cant rely on tv for the fights that wont make them decent money, if your internet connection is good enough then id advise people to go that route and you wont worry abouyt setanta not getting certain fights
