I agree, Barrera has a shaky chin certainly, but don't know if it's glass....YET! This is a really solid card with Orozco-Maldonado Jr, on it as well.
Barrera is a guy who's been dropped by c-level guys in the past and his only venture outside of this relatively safe environment has been Ward, and now Shabranskyy. I think that Shabranskyy is going to rough him up, throw many combinations, land a high percentage of these punches, and look better than Ward in the process. I'm not saying that he's better than Ward though. Barrera needs this win though, probably IMO, much more so than Shanbranskyy. I would've liked to see Ward prepare for Kov against Shabranskyy to be honest.
Very interesting fight! I am not really sold on the Ukranian.Sure,I will root for him but I wont be surprised if the Cuban is somehow able to beat Shabransky.I will see which way the cat jumps.Maybe I am wrong but my gut feeling isnt convinced that the Ukranian has the potential to be more than a fringe contender.
I expect Slava to handle him easier than Gonzalez and he won that one 8-2, 7-3. I can definitely see it unfolding like that with Slava needing a couple rounds to get going I expect he'll be better whether inside or outside. Everything Berrera does looks like he's moving under water guy is so slow. I'm a big fan of both but i do think Gvozdyk has higher potential overall and H2H but that's not to say i don't think Slava can compete at the top level.
Slava is listed at 6'3 which i always thought was bogus but he was at least 1" taller than Sullivan at the weigh in. Always thought he was about 6'1 weird.
Fantasy Springs Casino everybody. I have to give Golden Boy it's credit due for being consistent in the local fight scene. Hopefully after these 2 fights Orozco and Shabranskyy both get title shots.
Orozco is out of his fight tommorow night bro. He fainted at the weigh in. EDIT: Apparently he fainted this morning 7 hours before the weigh in, not at the weigh in as a previously stated.
I saw Shabranskyy damn near get killed by CW Paul Prkier in the first round yet he came back and won the second then stopped Parker in the third. The guy has a fighters heart!
Why do fighters do that to themselves? Do fighters legitimately feel they need that kind of edge, even though it's such a taxing one? Never understood extreme weight cutting.
I need to study their fights again, it seems everyone is high on Slava, I thought barerra has a good chance so I guess I'm the only one riding with him at the moment.
It will be a good test for Shabrankskyy to see where he stands, but I actually believe he already beat a better Cuban in Gonzalez.
