Yeah but imo he cant avoid these fighters, if he wants to be the best and prove he is a top dog, he needs to take these people out or show that he is a cut above them (no pun intended). Yeah i have heard roger izon has been in some good fights.
From Fightnews Ahunanya upsets Cameron! November 2, 2007 By Eugene Carnachan In a fight for the regional Asia Pacific title, New Zealand's world-rated heavyweight Shane Cameron (19-1, 17 KOs) was stopped in a barnstormer by Las Vegas-based Nigerian Friday Ahunanya (23-5-3, 12 KOs) on Friday at the Sky City Convention Center in Auckland, New Zealand. A lot of leather was thrown by the two superbly conditioned big men. The third round saw Ahunanya open up cut of the eye of the previously unbeaten Cameron, who is well known for his capacity to cut easily. The first two-thirds of the fight were dominated by the busier Cameron. His aggressive style was effective in tying up Ahunanya. However the wily Nigerian veteran was able to stay in the fight with some heavy shots of his own and his right hand uppercut he was looking to time on the bullish Cameron was particularly effective. As the fight came down the stretch Ahunanya started landing big shots in flurries. Cameron rallied and tried to steal back the momentum with some big rights of his own but when mid-way through the ninth round Ahunanya caught Cameron with a big right hand and then followed that up with a volley of shots to the head the tide started shifting in favour of the Nigerian. Cameron, cut again in this onslaught, was bleeding heavily. Cameron never really recovered from this round and while willing he was being whittled down with some thunderous shots by the oncoming Ahunanya. In the tenth and eleventh Cameron was in survival mode. The twelfth round saw Cameron again caught by a big right hand and he was sent to the canvas for the first time in his 20 fight career. He managed to get to his feet but Ahunanya knew exactly what to do and dispatched him with a couple more heavy shots. Cameron's first loss and an impressive win for the 35-year-old Ahunanya. This was Cameron's first big step up in class and an attempt by his management team to pave a way to big time cards in America. Those plans with for the short term be put on the back burner. His management team may have to look at dropping some weight and having the relatively small heavyweight campaign in the cruiser division where with his heavy hands and aggressive style he would be a test for any cruiser. On the undercard, one time contender Ed Mahone had his hands full with local heavy Seuite Mailata. This fight could have been fought in toilet cubicle. Neither man taking a backward step and both swinging from the bleaches. Mahone appeared hurt in the second round but came back to hurt Mailata later that round. Mahone landed some big shots and looked to have Mailata out on a number of occasions but Mailata stayed on his feet and kept swinging right to the closing bell of what was a very entertaining fight. I think the fight should have been stopped on cuts actually. The blood on Shane's face, and in his eyes was insane. I've long thought that even if he has the skill, power, heart and conditioning to be a top 10 heavyweight, Shane doesnt have the skin for it. Tragic. The ring was farcically slippery. Absolutely ridiculous, a number of times just moving around those guys were slipping and sliding, let alone if they were trying to throw something. There's no doubt that Shane was saved a number of times when he was in trouble by the slippery canvas.
I would think that at the point where the blood is interfering with vision - which it undoubtedly was - that presents a stop-worthy problem. How many big right hands did Shane eat because his vision was ****ed?
I mean more from a style point of view. He should stick to fighting sluggers, there are easier ways to get to the top.
Wow that **** was brutal. His whole face looked like a damn crashsite. He's a nice guy - met him once here in Auckland. Handshake almost ripped my arm off!
The surface of the ring proved a handicap for friday in this fight, indeed he slipped over and on his ass 3 times. The boots he was wearing caused him a lot more grief than did Cameron, I believe had he been able to get real traction in some of those rounds, he would have had Cameron out of there much faster. Many times the ground traction denied friday his natural punching power and Cameron was able to look better in there than he actually was. Some boxing ware soles are inappropiate for some types of ring coverings, especially when wet. Cameron didn't have quite the same problem. Cameron stopped slipping so much and became the target from about mid rounds on, and of course friday was allowing him to extend himself a bit before going after him. Cameron just simply didn't belong in that type of fight at this point of his career, too many light breakfasts. Now whats he gunna do :huh __________________ 'HIT WITHOUT BEING HIT'
Yes , there is nothing worse than battling the ring surface as well as an unbeaten live contender in his own backyard.. Friday never has it easy and has always had to overcome obsticles to get to where he is today.. Its all credit to him beating Cameron eventually..
