Yes but he also rocked Lewis and has many solid fights against guys that would not be allowed to fight moore?
I think Miguel Canto is better than Golovkin but I wouldn't favout him there neither. At some point a size advantage will overcome a skill advantage. Moore is giving up a heck of a lot of weight. Could he bulk up as successfully as Byrd did? Maybe, but if we take the 175 pound version of Moore he doesn't have a cat in hells chance against Briggs.
I would think that Moore would come in around 190-196 at heavyweight. At that weight and Briggs' prime weight there is a 32-38 lb difference. For Holyfield and Klitschko there is a 38lb difference as well.
Holyfield is a tacticle counter puncher nothing like Moore, Holyfield also has a chin top 10 all time imop.Briggs would run over Moore its a mismatch.
Holy has a stylistic advantage for me. He proved in the rematch with Lewis that jab and grab doesn't work. He proved in the rematch with Bowe he can fight at range with speed and movement. The kinda fight Moore will have to fight is akin to what Briggs did against Foreman. The way Moore fought against Valdes. He'll have to fight scared and very cautiously. On top of that Briggs has very quick hands and is a fast starter. If he comes out guns blazing it could be a very early night.
Who's the best HW Briggs beat? The Foreman win was a gift. His ONLY win was over Liakhovich, whose only claim to fame is a win over Lamon Brewster. And Briggs only just managed to KO Liakhovich, at 2:59 of the final round. Nino Valdes was at the top of his game, the #1 contender at the time. Moore's much better defensively than Briggs, a sharper hitter. A counter puncher, a KO hitter. Briggs is more likely to get KO'd early here.
Valdes is a top top victory and Moore deserved his title shot after that, no doubt about it. But I was on about his ko record above 200 pounds. I would love to favour Moore here. I really would. But the worst style for any former MW to face is a 240 pound aggressive fast power puncher who comes out swinging.
Moore KOs against opponents over 200 pounds were mostly mediocre. That's true of Shannon Briggs too. I disagree. A big crude swinger leaves himself open to get countered and befuddled, and KO'd. I'd pick James Toney to defeat Briggs too.
