So, are you making the argument that losing to a top amateur with an incredible workrate when you're basically a child in terms of boxing and weighing 45 pounds less than he does now is somehow supposed to be relevant?
Why would one think that? Porter is a volume swarmer, which lends itself to amateur success more than Usyk's clean pinpoint shots. Usyk's primary advantage over most (larger) opponents is that he's much faster, which probably wouldn't have been the case here. Not really much of a head-scratcher looking at styles...
I think theres a difference from judging a fighter on a amatuer fight of 17 & 18 year olds that happend 13 years ago than say judging their peformance 6 years later in the 2012 Olympics or the WBS in 2013.
Usyk who is 9 months older than Porter, didn't even walk into a gym until he was 15 y/o, and AFAIA didn't start competing until 2005 lost by 3 points (23-20) in the US in 2006 to a Porter who'd took up the sport in 1991 aged 4, had been competing since he was 8, and had won over 100 bouts by the time he was 14 and he'd obviously had a ton more over the course of the next 5 years before squaring off with Usyk. This just demonstrates how freakishly talented and special Usyk was/is not the reverse
Porter was more physically developed at the time than Usyk who has gone on to gain 40lbs since they fought . Usyk was probably in middle adolescence while Porter had completed his physical development.
Here's Porter (about six months prior to facing Usyk IIRC) dropping Danny Jacobs like a sack of potatoes and nearly sparking him out. Usyk also lost to Matvey Korobov. It doesn't mean anything when you consider how small Usyk was back then. He probably started puberty late, otherwise he wouldn't have gained 50 lbs since then. Porter's body was already more developed and he was physically mature. Despite the similar age, Porter already had a man's body, while Usyk was probably a scrawny teenager. It's a nice name to have on Porter's resume and he won that fight close (23-20), but it's not relevant when comparing them today.
Shawn Porter is a natural middleweight and is actually more effective at that weight, but due to the money that was available at 147 he cut down. At middleweight Porter was the faster fighter and was really good at sneaking in shots on the taller fighters.
