You are right Scurla, a lot of his shots were hitting gloves and shoulders, but he did catch him with a good 8-9 clean shots that were unanswered bar one straight left and he was wobbling all over and clearly not in a fit state to defend himself. Academic now anyway, the fleeting glimpse at Paris did leave a bad taste in the mouth but I still think despite that it was a fair stoppage...

 

Everytime Frank gets a fighter good enough to do great they leave him, It's probably no wonder he keeps alot of them low profile on **** like WBO and WBU belts, although he hasn't done any WBU fights for a while now.

So what if Byron had been shipping heavy punches? At the time of the stoppage, Byron had actually stumbled as he was off balance. The fight was then called off by Dave Parris.
So by your reckoning if a fighter has taken a few big shots AFTER he landed a bomb of his own & then falls off balance its OK for the fight to be stopped?

When did I ever say that Joe 'fixed the fight' with Mitchell??? I said the stoppage was a disgrace, theres a massive difference you know.

How does Joe gesturing to the ref to stop the fight mean he fixed the fight?
Fighters often do this. larry holmes for instance. Just cos the ref stopped it at Joes request doesnt mean that Joe fixed the fight.

My argument is that british boxing officialdom is corrupt to the core. Never once did I say Joe fixed the fight himself. Thats preposterous.

Who knows? All I will say was Calzaghe expended helluva lot of energy as he was swinging wildly from the moment he got up from the KD until Parris waved off the fight.

maybe Joe would have won spectacularly anyway, but the fact of the matter is that the fight stoppage was a joke.
People seem to be getting offended at me for stating this, as if I hate Joe Calzaghe cos I said he got a dodgy W.

That simply isnt the case. I respect Calzaghe as a fighter, but the thread asked a question, & I answered it truthfully. Sorry if my honesty offended anyone.

Never understood why the Mitchell stoppage is considered contraversial, BM's eyes were in orbit. I think the ref timed it well.
