Should Boxing be changed to 13 rounds to avoid draws?

This has been tried off & on in the past.

 

Why wouldn't a fight be able to be a draw? And why would we then want to avoid it?

Also, the problem with the Ggg Clenelo fight has more to do with correction or incompetence rather than the scoring system. One more round wouldn't get rid of that.

 

I think at one point in the 80s they actually did this. It didn’t last.

 

There is no need to avoid draws. IT just like deadbeat in racing. Nothing wrong with that.
They should just cleanup Corrupt judges. They are the root of the problem.

 

I like the idea, though it wouldn't end all the corruption, of course.

Also, they would have to make even rounds illegal. Currently they are NOT, even though it's sort of "semi-official."

And that would suck, as IMO judges SHOULD score even rounds when appropriate.
Nothing (outside of plain corruption) leads to bad scores more than having to give a round to one fighter when that round was incredibly close.

Like in just about every other sport, when the score is tied, they use extra time to avoid one if possible.

Live scoring baby. Put em up there for everyone to see. If it’s still a draw after 12, go to a 13th to decide it!

I say it in jest (I think, it wouldn’t be the worst and boxing used to be longer than 12) but I do believe in live scoring. It will reduce corrupt scoring by letting the fans and fighters/corners know what’s happening as it is and hold them more accountable. Imagine Adelaide Byrd getting boo’d beyond belief by round 8 because everyone knows what she’s doing?

It’s life having an umpire behind home plate and not doing anything for 6 pitches and then just calling the batter out because he saw three strikes.

Then maybe fighters will turn it on more in the later rounds and we get more action instead of seeing ODLH get on his tricycle.

Too few times are the scorecards rendered in a truly debatable fight that we are excited about. More often we get baffling scorecards out of nowhere.

 

Championship boxing should be changed back to 15 round fights..........................

 

How about using the card of a 4th judge? If that is a drawn card, then using compubox statistics on punches landed?

Alvarez - Trout had open scoring and it did not help at all.
It was most definitely a razor close bout, but after 8 everyone knew that Trout needed a KO.
Which was BS.

I'm in total agreeance with you.
Round 1, the feelout round where nothing much really happened in it to really merit giving it to one fighter over the other. To many fights have been decided on a round like that, when all honesty it should have been scored an even round.

When you have rounds that go be scored either way, then it becomes a matter of who the judge personally prefers wins the fight and in many and most circumstances its the popular fighter that gets the nod in an extremely close round.

The round 1 feelout round alone is enough for me to encourage scoring an even round when in fact the round is just that, an even round.
