There's also the fact that your hands are far more brittle than your skull, gloves allow you to hit harder without injuring yourself.

We should all remember that gloves are a hell of a lot bigger now than they used to be. Look at old footage of the greats, their gloves look like mittens in comparison to modern ones.

    :lol:mug

    nope re-research it

it's because you can keep throwing and landing without fear of breaking your hands you dont need to stop, also leads to boxers able to take the punch without getting sparked meaning more punches will land in a night than a mma fighter. thats the danger.

Boxing is doing just fine with its current rules. Its the ducking thats killing the sport. When good fighters are squared up against each other the gloves are the least of the problems. The reason some fights are boring is because they are usually mismatches.

If anything UFC should change its rules and allow no wrestling then i would actualyl be more interested in watching your sport. No one likes to watch to guys grope each other for 15 minutes.

    **** off.

Can you imagine if you gave Randall Bailey or Maidana those gloves? Victor Cayo would have shat himself and died a slow, painful and embarassing death after that bodyshot.

Also boxing is ten times more dangerous than MMA because what is potentially fatal about boxing is the distance and the velocity the punch has compared to the hammer punches.

Most MMA fighters can punch as well as two drunken pub brawlers.

Boxing's style of fighting is just fine, no modifications are needed or warranted. IMO, boxing should minimize the amount of title belts to be had. A lot of fans(especially casual fans), can't keep track of who's who anymore.

But if you think about it, whatever they're talking about is quite irrelevant.

Yes boxing have caused a lot of brain damage due to long term of being hit in the head and have history and studies overtime to back it up. But to compare gloves with bare fist is just silly.

If you hit a person with a 12oz gloves and a bare fist with the same power, amount and on the same spot. The damage would be significantly differently. So if you got back in history and replace gloves with bare fists... Most boxers would be long gone by now.

    -------

But to answer this thread, boxing should stay the way it is. If any adjustment should be made, has to be minimal. Boxing is one of the greatest classic sport and should not be tainted.

It's the match up that needs some fixing...

It's not exactly that. It's that a one-punch KO causes less permanent damage than sustained repeated blows to the head. And you're more likely to knock someone out quicker with lighter gloves.

That said, you're also more likely to have immediate, catastrophic damage from a massive single punch than from a long-term beatdown, so it evens out a bit.

I'm not in favor of the idea. If you can't block punches with gloves, it's not boxing. Also, just imagine how much more clinching there would be if people actually could use their fingers.

Wake up dude boxing is not dying at all... The facts are boxing throws a lot of events by different promoters even at the same dates and still generate interest. Even if you consider it as a dying sport:D, it still has better and most importantly official numbers than UFC.

Goes to show this MMA fan knows nothing of boxing. The problem with MMA fans most of you think just because MMA has allot of ko's thats what makes it a better sport, but you never consider the quality of the fighters who get ko'd and are doing the ko's. In boxing if a fighter got ko'd like Randy Couture or Chuck Lidell, was, we would consider the quality of the fighter, and usually a fighter who gets ko'd like Liddell has been ko'd in boxing is a bum , has no real experience or is just no good. In MMA a guy gets a ko and all of a sudden he is the greatest. You see allot of ko's in MMA but MMA fans never stop and think and say, "wait a minute a top fighter should not be getting ko'd with such obvious ridiculous punches", or you don't consider a fighter going in with his hands down and his body squared up. I see that in MMA even if a ko happens its pathetic to see a fighter go in with his hands down with his chin up, or backing straight back with his neck up. I see that and its sad not exciting when an MMA fighter gets ko'd. Example Silva's 1 punch ko of Forrest Griffen. MMA fans see that and claim it to be proof of how great Silva is, but I see it and say how pathetic and obvious the ko was when I see Forrest go in hands down chin 1st and body squared up. MMA fans don't see that they only see wow what a great ko. MMA fans would cheer and claim how great a fighter is if he ko'd a quadriplegic.

I love both sports, but I think you are way off on what is "killing" boxing and allowing MMA to thrive. Boxing is being "killed" by structural issues not the equipment used. However those same issues that "hurt" boxing also make it lucrative. MMA is doing well now because it is "new" and, due to it being in a league format, has central control over fighter's careers and decisions.

The gloves in boxing are needed due to the nature of constant striking AND the seedy origins of the sport. If UFC fighters committed to effective striking more I am sure we would see a ton more eye injuries due to random fingers being inserted. However going back to the UFC league framework and shady tactics, the UFC could isolate and eliminate fighters who did it.

I, as a combat sport fan, wouldn't mind seeing a few fights, though I beleive they would be BRUTALLY short.
