Boxing should choose a standard glove. The smaller the better, I'm thinking Everlast and Reyes. They should get rid of the standing 8 count and the mandatory 8 count. They should get rid of the 3 kd rule. It should be made into more of a fight. Big gloves, 8 counts etc prolong punishment. It's better that a fighter gets hit harder and is put away quicker. MMA typically looks more explosive in the stoppages so it can LOOK more devastating then boxing. I would also like to see boxing embrace the shorter fights. Fights should still be 12 and 15 rounds for championship fights BUT the prizefighter format should be embraced. Not only that but prospects are getting moved up to 12 round fights for bogus belts just so they can go the distance. All they do is fluff around for 12 rounds. Watch HAye vs Abdoul. He claims he wanted to show he can go 12. It showed nothing, he threw 20 punches a round.
It would start looking like boxing did in Jack Johnson's day: lots of feints, low hands, long range, Ruiz-style clinching, and ten punches a round.
yes, boxing should change their gloves to mma gloves also, they should allow kicking, elbows, and knees and allow clenching, and take-downs, and submissions oh...wait, that's what we have MMA for
and let's not forget about eye pokes. There's nothing wrong with the sport itself, it's the governing bodies that need to be revamped.
Dempsey and Louis wore small gloves but still wreaked havoc. Same with Marciano and many others. Johnson's era and style could be more to do with 100 rounds of fighting.
