I think you are missing my point.

He could bring an Aztec war club into the ring and beat his opponents with it.

    He'd still sell fights.

You don't get to define other people's heroes, only your own.

I get what CJ is saying.

He is a hero to his fans....

And Canelo has a lot of fans.

Pacman had that sort of fan base in his day.

Mayweather cultivated a kind of anti-fan base in his day. He had his hard-core fans but he could also count on people buying his fights hoping to see him lose.

Generate enough buys and the boxing commissions, promoters, venues and streaming services will want to see you succeed.

Pro boxing is really more prize fighting than a legitimate sport and in that context, money talks. Loudly.

I don't love that about modern-era boxing but it's the reality.

He’s not a national hero. I would say a good amount of people dislike him

He's got his detractors for sure. I've heard things like:

    He's not Mexican enough.
He doesn't fight like a Mexican.
    He's had it too easy.

Maybe the average more indigenous looking Mexican from the rancho or campo can't releate to Canelo like they did JC Chavez???

Maybe it's a generational thing where the older hard-core boxing fans prefer their fighter to be more of a brawler than a technician???

But...a heck of a lot of people are still buying his fights. He is still insanely popular compared to most other boxers.

How many people typically tune into his fights? He does huge numbers compared to most other fighters.

Ill keep it real. I was rooting for Munguia. No dis towards Munguia but Canelo should not have that fight as his last on his resume.

Imo David B. Should be his last fight. My respect for Canelo would go through the roof if he was able to beat David B.

No offense to anyone here directly, but if any grown man is looking for a boxer to be their hero they've got some serious **** to work out lol.

I wouldn't say all of Canelo's fans are men. There are plenty of Latina women who are fight fans to some extant.

Now if Canelo leaves his wife for some Peruvian hottie, his support among that demographic could slip.

Well, sometimes people see others as heroes because they feel identified with that person as they see that person as representing them-even when they really dont.

You guys know that Beterbiev ruptured his meniscus right? He's 39 years old, he's done. Canelo beating him would prove he's good at cherry picking Russians during unfavorable circumstances and nothing else.

I don't care who you have as a hero but if you idolize a blatant cheat youre not a real boxing fan are you? Because theyre responsible for boxings demise
