Would you mind enlightening us all on how Meldrick Taylor could have ran, held, or even went into a guard......We are talking about a fighter that was unresponsive to either Richard Steele's count, or his question of "are you ok."????? This is some funny ****, Pimp, dont you know that a referee stops fights because he determines that the fighter cant defend himself. Obviously, Steele determined by looking at Taylors eyes as he counted, and by then asking are you OK twice, that Taylor was not going to be able to defend himself if he let the fight go. Pimp trying to reason that the Taylor stoppage was not correct, is liken to a man trying to convince his wife that he was'nt cheating on her, when he's been caught red handed by her humping another women! "Its not what you think honey....." :nut Just laughable, a fighter with a blank stare and unresponsive, but the ref should let the fight continue because there are only a few seconds left in the fight...... Hey Pimp, should Steele have called a timeout and asked the timekeeper how many seconds were left? ......or should Steele have continued his questioning of Taylor until he finally got a response or time expired? It's a matter of aesthetics. Do you judge subjectively or objectively. Subjectively, you MIGHT say Steele was wrong. Objectively, he WAS right!!
Disagree. Steele asked Taylor if he was ok and got no response. The replays clearly showed that was the case. In hindsight Steele maybe was wrong, but what he did was right at the time.
Absolutely not. I thought it was a travesty 18 years ago and I still do. Steele was King's boy and it wasn't the last time he pulled the trigger early to help one of King's fighters either. Steele is as corrupt as they come.
Let's say the K.D. occourred with 2:00 minutes left in the round, Taylor looked the way he did, and failed to respond to Steele twice just like he did in the actual fight. Wiith 2:00 minutes left I think he should have stopped the fight?
Hard to say. Generally, if a fighter is still standing, I'm in favor of letting it go to its natural conclusion. I think refs tend to call fights way too early in the modern era.
That makes no sense. If a fighter is standing but isn't proplerly responding to the ref and it's clear that his head isn't right, the fight should be stopped. Just because a guy is standing doesn't mean a ref should let a guy fight on. I know that in retrospect, it's easy to say that Steele should've let the fight go on. But at the moment, Steele didn't know how much time was left AND Taylor didn't properly respond to him.
Why not just come out and say that you hated that Steele stopped it because you wanted Meldrick Taylor to win.......I think I'd respect that type of a viewpoint more than someone just saying that it was a travesty that a ref stopped a fight because although he was unresponsive, he was up on his feet. It really a shitty, just ludicrous viewpoint that someone would say, I dont care that Meldrick Taylor was just standing there like a Zombie, he deserved the chance to survive a few more seconds....... .......goodness, really look and examine this viewpoint......its really a ridiculous thing to say that the stoppage was a travesty!
Really, if all refs let a fight go on just because a guy i standing, there will be a lot more damaged fighters than there are right now. You have to be responsive and have your head somewhat clear to go on. If you don't even know what's going on when you're up, you're just going to get killed.
Yes. It should of been stopped earlier in fairness. There was still a few seconds left which is more than enough time for Chavez to land another huge shot, one more and I would of feared for Taylor's life.
